Yeah, as much as we rail on the tranny VA, the terrible voice is only 1 facet of why she's so widely disliked as even the Japs dislike her.
The real issue isn't Wuk's character or that she's just a run of the mill shounen trope. It's in how she is presented and how the writer sidelines characters that have had more established presence and relevance to the world in favor of giving her more screen time than she actually needs, to the point where characters that people have developed bonds with for several years have to watch them basically make way for a new person conceived specifically for this expansion and in which the world seems to bend and revolve around her specifically. Krile namely seems to always get the shortend of everything. Despite being set up for a story in which she grows and stands firmly on her own 2 feet to take the initiative instead of being content with just being a background figure, ultimately she is made exactly into that, a background figure who's relevance to the plot is so minuscule, that I have to wonder why they even bothered to include it. I would even go as far as to say it's malicious. To deceive your playerbase into believing that a character that has been around since Heavensward is finally getting the opportunity to spread her wings only to then snuff her flame out in the most unceremonious fashion is a fucking insult to our intelligence. You can't wave a slice of fresh meat in front of a hungry lion and expect not to get mauled.
Wuk Lamat shouldn't have had so much screen time as she did. Instead her desire to win the throne and the contest should've been a backdrop to the real interesting points of the story, namely, Krile's origins and Zoraal Ja's complicated feelings towards his family, himself and the world he was raised in. Main characters don't need to be so heavily placed at the forefront of everything. A good protagonist knows how to step away to allow another person to shine in the spotlight and knows to not overstay their welcome. If the main character has to snuff everyone and everything else out to hog the limelight all the time, people will grow disinterested and bored with being served the same slop. Especially when that character has no real legs to stand on. Also, Wuk's whole sea sickness thing got on a lot of people's nerves too. That kind of stuff can be endearing, but not with someone people find insufferable.
Established characters are harried even further by the introduction of yet even more new people into the story past the midway point. You have too many people fighting to have a presence and characters who are long overdue for their own slice of the pie are even further buried. By the end, all of the initial reasons why people got excited for the expansion were toned down to be nothing more but a quiet fart drifting off in the wind. Everything just hackneyed together haphazardly. Everyone hates Dawntrial because we all got a story that we didn't ask for or want. A story that was not advertised to us. They promised us a carefully crafted sundae and instead handed us a half melted popsicle that looks like it was dropped on the floor several hundred times.
If you try to stuff too much into a jar, eventually it's gonna break and just spill everything everywhere and make a mess. Then what you're left with is no one being happy and a mess you now have to clean up.
Such a waste of potential. Now they have to scramble to make things right through patch story.
