The only “draw” that modern consoles have is that they’re Mid-Tier PC’s out of the box, but that draw is countered hard by the fact they’re a closed ecosystem, and the sheer customizability PC offers - to say nothing of the library of games you get access to on PC being nigh infinite.

Valve's efforts with SteamOS and the Steam Deck are really getting close to the ideal of making PC gaming almost as approachable and hassle free as a console. The beauty of their approach is that the experience can be as casual or as in-depth as the end user may choose to make it. Some users will use the Deck as purely a console, only downloading and playing the verified titles without ever touching the desktop while other will choose to customize and install files, mods, emulators and completely transform the experience because the platform is completely open. it is the best of both worlds.

If Valve can manage one day to crack the egg of Anti-Cheats incompatibility and developers have to do literally nothing for their AC solutions to just work out of the box, not only Windows is going to be trouble, consoles like the PS5 will be too. If in the future you can just buy a Steam Deck 2 and it runs all the F2P multiplayer games with no issues plus having access to the Steam library, that's going to make it a very tempting alternative over a Sony or MS console.

Yes of course, I meant as a gaming OS. Windows 11's growing bloat might be a point of consideration for people that want to squeeze as much performance of their PCs by using something leaner like Linux or more specialized like a SteamOS styled distro (again provided the Anti-Cheat issue for multiplayer games gets resolved.)


But for most people who daily drive Windows for a long list of other reasons besides gaming, that is not going to be an option.

I wish they went back to that sci-fi project they were working on before Sony forced them to cancel it and make God of Soy.
The lead writer (who pitched them the concept I think) worked on the Battlestar Galactica remake. At the time, one of the rumors for the cancellation was that it was too close to Mass Effect, which is retarded because I'd rather have a new sci-fi IP similar to Mass Effect than Kratos without testosterone.

As others have mentioned, this feels very much like it started development when Hyenas was announced. At least Sega had the right idea to cut their losses early.

I desperately wanted a bank heist game that is more technically demanding than payday. Something that lets you plan out each step of the robbery in detail, and if you mess up then you either switch to a backup plan or tough it out. The bill's layout was designed in Excel on a ten-year old Dell Vostro desktop that struggles to run Windows 11 off of its platter drive, and the keyboard is so worn down you can see your reflection in the oily, slick keys.

They honestly think that Japanese 3rd party devs will look at the current landscape and think:
"I think I'll sell my product to like 1/6th of the available customers in Japan. Fuck that massive PC gamer audience overseas willing to pay with USD dollars while the yen is doing so poorly."

So it's highly possible that half the all time peak players are the devs themselves because they were forced to, & the testers because they were paid to.

Imagine being one of the programmers that just wants to do cool shit like the rope physics in TLOU2 and tries their best to avoid their woke colleagues but is now forced to play this garbage.
