This isn't just him, but I think Earthbound exists for three types of people; the first are the most honest, they just never played it. The second are people who have played it and enjoyed it. The third are tourists who say "Oh yeah, Earthbound" while playing it very little or not at all; and Jason falls into this category. If you were to creatively ask him what was his favorite thing / what he named Ness's unique PSI, he couldn't tell you, couldn't tell you how many Starmen he had to defeat for Poo's sole weapon, or if he even tried for the Gutsy Bat. He can tell you the towns are made with numerical references, there's the Run Away Five, and Paula's Prayer is how you defeat the final boss, who by the way is symbolic of an abortion from some childhood trauma from the head dev. You ask for a specific meaningful or memorable part or anything, he couldn't tell you; nor could like 90% of the Internet denizens who cite Earthbound. It was unique and quirky for its time, just like every wannabe online personality you've ever seen, ever.
