This article came out yesterday lol

God what I wouldnt give to be a fly on the wall to all the people who worked on this game getting the news that it was getting shut down after 2 fcking weeks 😂
Oh, I was mildly curious about which one's the full-fledged troon (not merely an "enby") since it was very obvious that there would be one among the cast given the dedicated pronouns display.

if it's true that the game had sold 25.000 copies that would mean that if sold at 40 dollars they would have made only exactly 1.000.000 dollars. (only in upfront cost)

if the budget was 200 million it would mean it only made back 0,5% of it's budget back.

sony has such a huge blunder they don't even want to pay to maintain the servers for it.

Aside from laughing at the failure of the game that touted pronouns as a feature, I would also contend that this is more so the result of chasing trends. Rather than take a competent studio with a vision to make something original, companies like Sony will see "oh wow people like hero shooters guess it's time to cash in!"

200mil and half a decade later, the appetite for hero shooters has died down and trends have changed, all the remains is a money pit of a game nobody asked for that was marketed towards an audience that doesn't exist. I would be really interested to see what their market research looked like at the start of production vs the last year of development, there's no way someone didn't see this coming.
And how many Hero shooters you have right now on the market?
Overwatch 2, bad
Rainbow Six Siege, got turned into dogshit
TF2, old.
The reality is that there is always a market for a good game and Hero shooters are not as over supplied in the moment Concord launched.
The problem for Concord was not that it's a Gay Niggers from Outerspace TM Hero shooter.
It's that it is a shit Hero shooter. You can say the gunplay was fine and that the game ran fine. But if your Heroes are buttfucking ugly then nobody will want to play as them. Especially when they all play like generic trite.

So to recap:
>200 million dollars
>8 years of development
>Sony shuts down all of their Japanese studios and redirects their efforts into developing "cinematic" experiences to appeal to western gamers
>Sony liquidates countless other studios in the pursuit of funding this game
>Sony buys Bungie to aid in developing this game
>Sony thinks this is going to be a huge success rivaling COD and Fortnite, so they fund an entire multimillion dollar CGI-animated episode to be aired in Amazon's Secret Level anthology series

>Shuts down in 10 days
>Sony refunds everyone

I can't believe Sony genuinely thought they could bank on a live service hero shooter MOBA to save their console business. The PS4 and now PS5 have severely lacked in proper first party titles due to Sony adopting the strategy dumping nine figures worth of money into hyper-realistic cinematic slop and praying that they'll appeal to enough game journos to shill it and normies to buy it.

Studios need to quit making MOBAs and hero shooters full quirky MCU quipping characters, the trend died with the 2010s and the industry needs to move on. This game is just another multimillion dollar dumpster fire on a pile of other low-effort, high budget dumpster fires. Absolutely nothing special about its gameplay or graphical art style to warrant anyone's interest.

Concord, however, is unique in that Sony committed the single cardinal sin that dooms any hero shooter: If you want your hero shooter to be successful, you need to make sure the characters are appealing and most importantly fuckable to your playerbase.

90% of MOBA players are touch-starved gooners with enough free time to dump into climbing up the competitive ranks ladder season after season. Overwatch and Valorant's devs know this and keep their games running by selling skins to coomers who then rip those models to make porn with. None of the characters in Concord are attractive in the slightest to anyone but the most soy-chugging game journos, so it was dead on arrival.

Sony and the Playstation brand have been a shambling corpse since the day the PS4 launched. Concord's failure is another testament to the failure of this era's Sony.

just who are these people still moderating the subreddit?

What confuses me about the whole thing is that it's a hero shooter in the first place. If they wanted to do big cinematic experience shit wouldn't they want to do an action RPG or something? I remember seeing the marketing for the game a while back and it was all about the characters talking with each other and doing missions. Could have done something like Vermintide? Could have done anything else?

I guess Overwatch does that too but like many people have pointed out it's also coomer bait.

I don't really get a lot of MOBAs in general though.

Considering Star Wars still puts out woke shit even after all of its failures, I highly doubt anyone is going to learn anything from this
That's because Star Wars fans keep engaging with it. This is just proof when this progressive shit isn't wrapped in the skin of something people once loved, no one likes it or is interested in it.
I'm sure Sony will learn, at the very least, that letting these people run wild with new IPs is a recipe for failure. But that might not mean they stop making this gay shit. Instead it might mean more of the IPs people enjoy being corrupted...

Everyone wants that live service money, but devs fail to grass that the game has to be worth playing before people open their wallet.
Destiny made bank by having people dedicate all their time to their shooter with raids and dungeons, and only later did they push microtransactions hard

A project lead is the same as management. They are directing the coders on what they want.
I've seen so many cases before where the upper management scapegoated by Internet people to explain a game's failure specifically refers to the publisher as to absolve the dev studio of any fault. Think of how often Activision's old CEO Bobby Kotick was made out to be the villain in stories of game development woes over the years. For one famous example, people really loved to blame Konami for the problems with Metal Gear Solid V and the subsequent shuttering of the original Kojima Productions, ignoring Hideo Kojima's oversized ego and ambition that would've lead to the game's development being an endless money sink had Konami not finally put their foot down.

I assure that the original Twitter troon I pointed out was directing his scorn towards the "money people" at Sony, most certainly not "the Professor" in a lead position at the dev studio.

I think it can still be done. It just requires interesting characters, good art design, fun gameplay; and not investing $200,000,000 into a studio that hadn't even released a single game before.

These games are what you call "safe anti-capitalism".

You don't ever actually get to take down a megacorp or kill bankers and shit which is actually based. I can't think of any woke games where you actually kill capitalists or fight the problem where it would actually hurt them.

You quite literally just have characters who'll say a single quip or line about a very "safe" topic of capitalism like muh student loans or muh food delivery prices but nothing that actually matters. Usually it's not even that it's just straight up IdPol.

If only we got a Cyberpunk game where you avenge every single American GI who died in the Pacific and Pearl Harbor go Total Jap Corpo Death and strangle every single Arasaka employee with their own guts because they're filthy slants- I MEAN, they're rich fags who popularized their smelly sushi to everyone.
Doesn't Mullet MadJack have you killing Robo-Billionaires left and right? And no one complains about that one.
DiVeRsItY to include:

6 fat brown women
3 aliens
1 robot
1 normal looking white guymanlet
The guy looks more than 6 inches shorter than the black sniper lady in the cutscene they put out for the week, looks way less imposing than every other character, and his gear looks like toys. It's clear than even when they knew they had to throw one in, they were going to go out of their way to diminish him compared to the Modern Audience-bait.
