I'm retiring the Maverick Files channel.
Full transparency - it feels like I'm monetizing trauma, death & gore. For a long time, I would tell myself that I'm trying to do a good thing; that I'm spreading awareness. But I feel that Maverick Files has become exploitative; practically dependent on misery. I'm digging through horrible stories and news events in order to tell a story, and then I follow it up by using "unique visuals" and "dramatic scripting/storytelling" that I then place advertisements within. And because of this (rather delayed) realization, my mental health has taken a harsh decline throughout this year.

This is my fault. As much as I want to point fingers and go "well other channels do XYZ!!" or "well, youtube DEMANDS ads to be placed in videos!!" - in the end, I just want to step away from this content, and this channel.

Will I make new content some day? Yes.
Will it be on this channel? No.
Will I redirect you all to the new channel? I'm unsure, but we'll see.

I respect T6 for doing this and going out full transparency.

But I disagree.

If anything T6 strikes me as the only guy making horror/true crime that has a soul. None of his videos felt exploitative in the slightest, he is more of a professional than the fuckers working at Netflix. He is responsible from bringing the Billy Donahue case back to life by contacting and propping the fund for the case. His videos on dark documentaries and traumacore were very respectful dives into stuff that most mouth breathers would take at face value. His last video, The Most Harrowing Disease, is beautifully tragic. I'm willing to die on that hill as someone that has had to stare deeply into the abyss. But this is T6's call and I respect him.

How does real exploitative content look like? Well, Plagued Moth was already mentioned so I'm going to namedrop Nexpo.

I'm sure I don't need to introduce you to SSB9 and if you've visited the thread you know I've been clogging it with as much info as I can gather. I've seen multiple angles of this manhunt and I can tell you most efforts are leaded by literal idiots. The main one on Reddit is a bunch of children that didn't archive shit and might be responsible for SSB9 mass deleting shit. While Nick Crowley made the video first, he was able to sell the gravity of the situation while Nexpo made it feel like his Mamamax larp with a NordVPN sponsorship smacked in the middle. I can tell you the manhunt went to shit the moment his fans came in and now you have retards on TikTok larping as SSB9 to the point its likely going to be this Halloween's hottest costume. Nexpo said that there was an investigation but everywhere I've looked I've met with people that are basically collecting links while refusing to call the feds on even dox him. I DO blame Nexpo for this, specially because it likely was his idea to make a fucking video on an open case that wasn't even close to been wrapped or even a case proper. THIS is exploitative, specially when it was full on confirmed SSB9 does use photos of real kids instead of AI. Fuck Nexpo and his stupid circle of friends that make their own fucking videos, ensuring more stupid wannabe sharties get involved while achieving nothing and that SSB9 himself knows he can't let his guard down.

Fuck Nexpo. I would be willing to go to a YouTube gathering to say it to his face. Why do the guys that do nothing wrong retire while safe-edgy cancer gets to stay?

Why would people with a skewed moral compass pass on this "opportunity"?
It gives them fame, recognition. People that actually give a shit about stuff like this don't care about all of that, they focus on the objective: exposing those criminals and nothing more, with nothing in exchange.

I completely agree with you, and it's the reason why him retiring the Maverick Files makes me incredibly sad, really.

Really makes me wonder if there's something happening behind the scenes we don't know about or he isn't talking about.

I wonder if he came to the realisation himself or if someone 'pushed' him into that direction, if his fans/haters somehow told him he's being exploitative and he's just rolling with it or if he came to this conclusion and just rolls with it. It's hard to tell for me, I've been following him for years now, but he rarely opens up about himself.

Honestly, I've had that thought for a while. I loved Mamamax' edgy artstyle, and didn't mind it bleeding into Nexpo's work when they were still hanging out together - but lately Nexpo's videos have been feeling edgy just for the sake of being edgy. I also cannot shake the feeling that his videos are some of the blandest in the YT-horror-sphere. They're high quality, sure, but something is just lacking. Maybe it's just Nexpo's bland personality shining through.

Plainly Difficult is one of my favourite disaster/incident recap channels - the guy running it describes everything that happens in enough detail to be concise, and if something is too gruesome for YouTube to handle, he does what any sane human would do and sums it up as "[person/people] died" (or were killed), instead of resorting to shitty algospeak. The channel also covers its fair share of more obscure incidents in addition to the ones everyone knows about, so there's quite a bit of variety to be found.

There’s something to it and I can’t put my finger on it, it seems to spill over to anything horror adjacent. Whenever I play dead by daylight and someone indicates that they are streaming, I tend to check out their stream after the game to see if they are a tranny/gay/gay sympathiser and the majority of them are. The weird girl from school that was really into horror ended up being a lesbian. I don’t know it just seemingly attracts that crowd.

I think its like skater culture that was always on the fringe of subcultures so they had the mentality of being more inclusive. Well we see how that turned out now.

People forget how scary slender man was back in the day, even before the slender man's stabbing incidents. Slender man is freaky because it blurs the lines between fiction and reality. The characters and stories took a life of their own. Hell, the slender man stabbing feels like something from HP Lovecraft, not real life. What's got me, there were violent crimes connected with slender man long before the stabbing incidents. More after.

Tumblr and Fujo artists took interest in creepypastas and SCP wiki. Tumblr started injecting woke propaganda into horror stories and censoring SCP stories. Jeff the killer and slender man are outright ruined by Fujo artists. Both can’t be taken seriously now.

Early Slenderman was and still is spooky as a concept. He was very mysterious, his motives were incomprehensible and the Eric Knudsen photos he appeared in just had a general sense of unease in them.

Gay shut ins decide they are so important that they mustve always been involved in horror and are better at it than the yucky mainstream that only exploits, and being a minority is the true horror...

Fujo shit is insane but I also find the smug men so assured by their 2-4 year degrees they have more media literacy than you to be more damning.
