Oh a bit of insider knowledge courtesy of the post-event loose lips. The debate was an utter catastrophe internally.

Apparently I was pretty close but not quite on the mark when I said it was supposed to be the moderators running cover for Harris as she is supposed to lay out her plans. Close because it was actually meant to be structured to ruin Trump and aid Harris with the moderators only subtly helping her.

Meant to, but Harris utterly choked.

The event was supposed to be this,

Odd numbered questions: Harris gets to go first, gets questioned about something she is strong on, she runs platitudes and feels, the moderators switch to Trump to get a response and a zinger, then swap to Harris for a rebuttal where she outlines policy and gets the last word.

Even numbered questions: Trump gets questioned on something he is weak on, Harris responds quickly and dodges any real response except a dig in to him, Trump then gets angry and proceeds to say things off the cuff.

It was actually not a bad plan at all, and if it had gone right it would have been bad for Trump. Except... Harris choked. It started right, Trump did his response, but when it came back to Harris she either forgot the policy or completely failed to keep her composure. Nobody is sure because she refuses to talk about it or sit down to see where she can improve. The moderators tried to fix it, and this is why that first question kept going back and forth so long, tried to set her up for the plan but she just completely choked.

And this kept happening for every question. The moderators increasingly having to step in until by the end it was what everyone acknowledges as a 3 v 1 match.

The entire thing had a plan but she just absolutely wrecked it from the start and internally nobody has a clue what to do with it. The debate she is trying to get going is meant to be a repeat of the plan.
This would explain the weird and stupid format of the debate.

Because of the awful moderating and the continuous back and forth on the same things that most voters don't even care about at this point (J6, the Proud Boys, "bloodbath," etc), I had to watch the debate in 2 sittings. My husband just rage-quitted altogether because he found the entire thing to be flat-out annoying.

I Got news for you buddy, Toriyama didn't know how to let shit go and continued to write content for DB until his death, his last storyline has enough content for yet another anime saga. Only thing that was retconned was GT.
It isn't that Toriyama "didn't know how to let shit go," it's that Jump kept pressuring him to continue the series. They drove him to the point of a nervous breakdown; I'm not sure if it's true but it's rumored he locked himself in his office and threatened to commit suicide if they wouldn't let him finish. He washed his hands of the series in 1995 but Shuueisha and Toei had the rights to continue creating material for it. He came back apparently because of the Dragon Ball Evolution movie. He realized that the corps controlling the IP had no creative vision and they were happy to defile his legacy putting the name on utter garbage. So he returned to the plantation and kept working until they'd squeezed the last drop of life out of him.

So if trump wins the election, should we worry about the senate & house seats? They need to be flipped as well.
I should do a proper effort-post in the 2024 Election thread in Happenings but the TL;DR is that Republicans are locks strong favorites to gain the Senate due to a favorable map allowing them to basically start at 50 seats and forcing Dems to defend difficult seats (Montana and Ohio in particular). The House is basically a toss-up due to Republicans overextending in the 2022 midterms (Democrats need to net just 4 seats in order to gain control of the chamber) but the party that wins the Presidency most likely retains / gains control of the House.

So in the debate she would bait Trump
Trump takes the bait or has to defend his stance
Then Kamala talks about her policy and everyones happy?

They kinda got steps 1 and 2 going - I really hope if Trump *does* do a second debate that he ignores the "why are you so racist and mean?" questions and summons up his Rally Trump mode - but it seemed to go off the rails on the last step.

She could set up the bait but good god she was awful at really talking about any policy, and that seems to be how the Oprah town hall went as well. She's serving word salads everywhere and little else. At least they got her to ease off the nervous cackle I suppose. I don't think the CNN debate will go any better if she's not willing to review her performance and see how she can do better. If anything Trump's got a better idea of her playbook now, it might not go as well as it did last time.

My current concern - both Trump and Kamala camps are entrenched right now - I'm not sure what it would take to break democrat voters of their party loyalty - but I think they just have to experience the dems being scummy to them directly for the spell to break?

A funny thing I just noticed

Why does everyone call Kamala Harris just Kamala but Donal Trump is always just Trump?

Is it just an instinctive bow to male dominance? Harris is a woman so people feel comfortable just using her first name but because Trump is a guy he's get the deference of authority.

I'm not shitposting for once, I'm genuinely curious

IRL and in my head I call her Kha-ma-LA. The way she hates it. Sorry, if you want it the other way shoulda been camala. And I also call her Harris a lot too. I notice she didn't take her husband's name which is another big sign of a stuck up leftist cunt. Surprised she didn't hyphenate it with his. Trump's a strong name anyway, so it's a good thing.

I think it's to emphasize her otherness, since that's the left's favorite thing. Kamala sounds so exotic and not white. Harris could go anyway. It's bland, easy to say. Uninteresting. You can ruin people's lives for their pronounciation of Kamala, but Harris is straightforward to pronounce.

Most presidents are called by their last name, so they had no reason to change Trump to be "The Donald." That's kind of what his admirers use anyhow. You can also call him Drumph and make him even more European and spooky as you scribble a tiny mustache onto one of his photos.

My guess is being in the same vicinity as an alpha male distracted her drunkened whore mind and she thought about dick for a moment which made her miss her cue. Kamala doesn't come off as the kind of person who can pay attention to her surroundings as soon as she starts thinking about dick since that was all she could think about and was trained for during her informative years.

Trump has built the brand name of just Trump for like, half a century, so even people who respect him as president usually just say "Trump" rather than "President Trump"

I don't feel bad for Biden because he is an evil old fart and wannabe totalitarian shithead, not to mention a pedophile. However, sometimes I can't help but imagine what it must be like being him right now- what a surreal adventure he must face daily. Speaking in public is second nature to him after so many decades as a politician. It's a muscle memory- like how even deep into dementia, a concert pianist could sit down and start cranking out Bach Inventions.

So he sees the piano and the audience and he goes out and he plays.

But deep down, he has to be in a constant state of panic. Am I in Vienna, or Rome? I'm playing some kind of Mozart thing- number 23 I think? That guy in the front row looks really shocked and confused- was I supposed to play 21 tonight? What hotel am I at? Where do I go to meet the driver? Did I change my underwear? What's next on the program??

I've thought that Trump's real metagame victory in that debate was to embed this idea in popular consciousness - even as they were trying to refute it, the Dems got more people to repeat the line about "eating the cats." If they had any brains they should have memoryholed it ASAP, it's a gut punch that goes far beyond any policy discussion. It reflects the destruction of everything normal and wholesome in the country.
Many pages back, I posted an image of a Harris sign I saw in my neighborhood- a cat in a business suit. This was before the Haiti debacle and right after the Vance "cat ladies" remarks.

Today I drove by that house again. The "Cats for Harris" sign is gone. Check and mate.

Early voting in Virginia is apocalyptic for Democrats....
Why are any ballots being this early?!? And links please man. I saw on DU someone said.. 25% of all ballots are already cast?! I can understand 2 weeks of early, if you show up with ID fine. But over a month is insane. It makes me MATI

Early voting should be limited to 3 days before Election Day, max. It's a joke to say we're a democracy with thinking citizenry, but you can vote 2 months before everything is settled.

Some of it might be to avoid calling him Donald as he used to be called "the donald" all the time. That might come into play?

There is an element of male dominance to it but Kamala, like Hillary before her, is going along with it and playing to emotion and personal connection. It's as convincing as this classic nonsense:

There is something inherently irritating and threatening about someone who is in charge and has power over others-- but wants to be "just one of the boys" too. When women do it, it makes them look like they're uncomfortable with power in addition to the standard effect of seeming untrustworthy/manipulative/fake.
