Just in case anyone doesn't know the significance of this Hamtramck is the Muslim-led Michigan city which under Ghalib banned the pride flag in 2023. It's a serious black eye for Harris in Michigan since it confirms any chance of the Arab vote coming home is gone. At best a large chunk are staying home, and that doesn't help her.

Youngkin is is interesting because he was a test run for the post-Trump co-opting of populism. The first run he had success but the second attempt he flopped as republicans ran the plan too fast. I am actually concerned that Virginia is a trap to make Trump less concerned about the battleground states. Virginia should be seen as an extra not the main path to victory.

It's a pretty simple sell if you think about it. Trump can come out and say "Palestinians enjoyed a historic level of peace during my tenure" and literally no one will be able to deny. The entire middle east was so much calmer under Trump.

He has an interesting life. Washington was more like Carl weather from arrested development. Running a plantation was like running a restaurant or bar. It wasn't if you'd go broke but when. Washington mainly only got into supporting the Virginia Patriots because of England stopping westward expansion which fucked with his land speculation.
He also was obsessed with his past life of being a soldier, even if it was embarrassing. He wanted to be a career soldier and planter like his older brother. Washington even made himself a custom officer uniform which is a huge reason he got to be commander and chief.
Washington wasn't well educated the way the rest of the Virginians were, he also had quite the scared face. But he understood the concept of being a man of his time in a way others did not. It's a big reason he's so well liked today, he burned most all his letters so he was more of a symbol than a man to others.
Washington despite being non political mainly let the federalist run everything. Hamilton was like the son he never had and the guy used it to his advantage.

I recently saw something making this very point: Kamala is ducking the media and the Vote Blue No Matter Who crowd doesn't even seem to care. Ironically enough, this was written by someone who is usually left-leaning. It has to be bad optics when an editorialist who might normally support Harris is criticizing her lack of media dialogue.
This makes sense. There is a trailer park a short drive away from my partof Kiwi Land. Although the owners seem to be sprucing up the place and updating signage in hopes of filling the empty lots, I wouldn't be surprised if they sold out to a developer who bulldozed whatever was left and put in overpriced condos nobody in the area could afford.
It's also consistent with my experiences where landlords who get new tenants want to raise the rents astronomically to the point nobody can afford to stay. I've even seen business property go vacant for over a year before the building was sold because the landlord drove the previous/final tenant out with unreasonable rent amounts.
Very wild because the scuttlebutt is that the Dearborn Arabs may be considering a vote for Jill Stein because they don't feel comfortable supporting either Trump or Harris. That said, it's unsurprising to see this post from the Hamtramck mayor given how practicing Muslims tend to have more conservative values even if they might prefer a Democrat in any other situation if it wasn't for the party's increasing emphasis on identity politics and its stance on the ongoing Middle East situation.
