Games/Game series you want to enjoy and get into but can't

Conker's Bad Fur Day. I heard great things about that cult classic. I couldn't get into the collect-a-thon, massive level structure that Rare games were known for in that era.
Conker isn't a collect-a-thon, in fact it's very linear. That being said the game is gross. I couldn't eat chocolate for a week.

Dark Souls.

I know I'm probably risking setting off a massive argument, but I legitimately unironically do not get the kick. Don't misunderstand, I understand why you like it. But to hear my friends tell it, it's the ultimate perfect transcendent experience in gaming that you can only experience if you're a TRUE SIGMA. I wish I could get this experience whenever I played, cause all I get is a frustratingly vague game where I hit a wall a few enemies in, get frustrated and go play something else. Sorry, I don't have a lot of time to commit to gayman these days, I'm not gonna spend it frustrated, I don't know what to tell you.

Final Fantasy 12, its combat is an absolute chore and borefest. Everything else is okay, not good enough to suffer through the gameplay. Music is great at least, still not even top 5 FFs, but good.

Dark Souls series, it just does nothing for me. I'm sure they're competent games but yeah.

F-Zero, I actually DO like this, but I suck at it so much that I kinda can't play it.

I could list tons of retro stuff, like Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi, and Castlevania (non-Metroidvanias). I can't beat that shit without abusing save states, which kinda sucka the fun out of it. Like Castlevania: Bloodlines, it's so damn cool but without save states I couldn't get through the sinking tower or that spinny boss battle at its top. I just stopped playing because I was reloading constantly.

I'm sure some cunt would say it's supposed to be unnoticeable in-universe, but speaking of its value as a narrative tool the trigger phrase is way too inconspicuous.

The payoff is supposed to make you remember all the previous times it was said, but even as I knew of the twist ahead of time and was keeping an eye out for foreshadowing, it's such a boring non-sentence that it plain doesn't work.
its such a bad twist because every video game of all time features some asshole barking orders at you over a radio, we as gamers accept it as a narrative device , you cannot advance the game unless you do what he says because the game is programed that way.
Dead space 2 does the "radio operator betrayal" thing better. issac is a voiced character so he offers objections that are reasoned, with answering whatever questions the player might have about why the character is doing whatever this guy we just met tells us. The pay off also takes place half way through the game so it makes the dynamic between issac and ellie learning to trust each other after getting betrayed better.
Deadspace 1 does the mkultra hallucination thing better because almost cannot believe nicole survived the outbreak but are really just relieved to see another human after hours of being alone. the twist doesn't shock you as much as it makes you feel hopeless and naive.

Yeah I tried blood money a couple times, but really have a bad time early on.
Blood Money is the best one, in my opinion, but it is hard to recommend with the reboot trilogy out. It's more like a puzzle game where you try to find the optimal solution or just shoot everyone. Once you figure out the solution there isn't much reason to revisit.
I wish I was autistic enough to enjoy EVE Online or Elite Dangerous, but on the opposite side No Man's Sky is too cartoonish for me. So I'm fucking stuck playing Space Engine (absolutely amazing "game" sadly with not much to do but it looks fantastic)
Try Freelancer. It's 20 years old but it's a good space combat RPG with lots of mod support. Decent story with lots of exploration and some different career paths.

Fear and Hunger. I'm obsessed with the lore and attention to detail. I tried it but holy fuck is it frustrating. It really is amazing one guy created so much backstory for an RPG Maker game.

I would say Deus Ex. It really looks like a fun game and I love its setting and plot, but I’ve tried multiple times and can’t really grasp it as much as I want to, it’s gunplay is an example.

I would also say the Stalker series as well. I’ve tried playing SoC like three times but an issue I have with open world games like that is that I’ll play it once for a day and have fun, but then never have the motivation to play it again.

i dont blame you. games made pre 360 era feel REALLY out of date and lack alot of the fundamentals that we take for granted such as responsive ai, dynamic animations and impactful shooting,
games like that are ones that would actually benefit from a remake, not deadspace 1 which still holds up today

Don't know if its the over abundance of games in it, but never could find a "rougelikes" I could stick to
I mentioned Freelancer above. I bought this space combat game on gog for like $4 thinking it would be like Freelancer. It's called Everspace and it's a rogue-like space combat game. I played a couple times and never got back into it. I don't get appeal of random drops and one life where a run of bad luck can destroy hours of a run.

Warhammer. I tried, folks. I really tried.
I can feel this one. I'm always trying with Warhammer, but I legitimately hate RTS games because they're the most boring shit on the planet imo and the same goes for the vast majority of turn based games. I will never play the TTG as there isn't enough money in the world to force me into a room with the average TTG/TCG autist for more than 5 minutes. My biggest complaint (besides the lore being a confusing cluster fuck without some kind of guide) is how few "true" FPS games there are in a series like this. You have Necromunda, Boltgun, Battle Sisters (which is VR so it barely counts) and Firehawk, which came out on the fucking PS2. Vermintide and Darktide exist, but I don't hold a L4D clone in the same regard as something like Boltgun when I think of FPS's. Mandatory co-op gameplay isn't fun to me and it gets really old really quick being the only competent person across multiple sessions or the only person who isn't taking a leisurely stroll when were being chased by fucking mobs.

Runescape because it just ain't the same any more, man...
Been wanting to log into the Steam version to see if doing so would pop all the achievements and give me an instant and easy "perfect" to add to the list. Can't even bring myself to do that. It's so infested with faggotry that the mere thought feels like walking into a tranny bar. I will sit at 9 99's till the end of time. I can still scratch my MMO itch with Ultima Online though. At least there I can call people nigger faggots and the mods don't give a shit.

Thread tax: The Souls series. I've tried really hard. I like hard games, I'd even argue combat wise Monster Hunter is very similar in a lot of ways, and I love the hell out of those, but no matter how hard I try I can't get the Souls games to click with me. I can't stand the constant stress of what feels like a single mistake being enough to make you lose progress, potential exp, and significant amounts of time. I can't stand the basic mobs being just as threatening as bosses, because it makes the numerous inevitable trips back to boss rooms after you die so needlessly stressful that each attempt starts to feel more like a chore just to get an attempt started than something I'm doing for fun.

I get the appeal of these games is the brutal difficulty, but when it feels like Doom on Nightmare from the word "GO!", and doesn't let up on fucking you in the ass for even a second if you're trying to move forward, it quickly becomes overbearing, tedious, and simply not fun. I love the lore, themes and aethstetics of it all, but I can't for the life of me get into the games themselves. "Needlessly and excessively difficult" is really the best way to sum up my feelings. Just starts feeling like masochism after a few hours.

Since it's brought up a couple of times now I do agree with the warhammer takes, warhammer is a series I feel like I should be into but I could never muster anything serious for it, despite how a lot of it's (annoying) fans love to propagate it as an alternative for those tired of the current state of halo and star wars, what they don't realize is that not everyone is into edgy grimdark stuff and that there isn't really any easy entry point for 40k
With Star Wars you spend a few days watching the prequels and original trilogy and you're set to go, you have a basic foundation of the main characters, the world and how it works, and you can go off on your own
Same with Halo, play CE or Reach all the way through Halo 3 and you understand most things(well not counting 343's halo with 4 and above)

with 40k there isn't really anything like that, there is no show or movie to watch to get you all caught up, no games to play that give you a wide understanding half of which besides space marine 1 and 2 have questionable quality anyway or are for a niche audience(I.E the strategy games)
One could just read/listen to lore all day but I don't think most people want to do that, not to mention but i'm pretty sure it's looking like GW is trying to appeal to the same people who turned star wars and halo into the trashfire it is today

First 2... 3 levels are the best the game has to offer...
uncharted, horizon zero dawn and soy of war.
I don't care how often PSfags applaud HZD and GoW's combat; it's the most geberic hack&slash ever.

Thread Tax: Deadlock.
The skill floor is huge. You need a lot of knowledge/practice. And it doesn't pay off. 9 out of 10 games are still trash, with 1 being okayish where you get to dominate...

Not liking co-op is understandable but I think the Tide games have some of the best first person combat on the market. Vermintide was what got me into Warhammer.

I think people just approach it from the wrong perspective. They see it as this huge web of novels and storylines. Really it's just a setting that's a big sandbox for stuff. If you actually want to get into it you should probably just read the core rulebook which introduces the setting and most factions. Then you can dive deeper into specific factions that interest you through their rulebooks. From there you just slowly build up your knowledge and dip into some storylines if you want to but it's all optional.

Almost nothing or can't think of anything. But certain games can take a couple of tries. Dark Souls clicked on the third try. More often than not, I need to be in the right mood. Finished Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines not too long ago, but tried to play it once or twice before, but wasn't feeling it.

F-Zero, I actually DO like this, but I suck at it so much that I kinda can't play it.
Got filtered by the campaign in GX ?

The appeal to me is how all-consuming it is. If you're into 40k, it's all your into (alongside RISK type games, planes and guns, arma etc). Buy any and all things 40k and play 40k and talk 40k. Brain off, no "hm. maybe i'd like BG3". No, you goon and coom for rogue trader instead. Wanna try a new game genre? Wait for 40k to copy it.

I tell myself I wanna play slow-burn grandpa games. Really get into Crusader Kings or Soviet Republic. TTRPG, Factorio. Those kinda autist games. I then sit down and recognize all the things I have to read and learn to play it, but just lose interest. I like collectathons like Horizon or Yakuza, so I just think to myself "I could play a game that is fun from start to finish instead of hoping this soviet simulator is fun in 8 hours". I'll 100% Persona 5, then wait for SMT5 and fail to get even 10 hours into it cause "oh this is hard and autistic - the kind i wanna get good at, but I could just play something fun..".

My ultimate grail is still fighting games. I got a leverless controller finally, so I just need what, Tekken 8, SF6, KoF15 and GG Strive? That's it. Fighting game players never play anything else, so that's all I need. Wahoo! Oh wait, I could.. you guessed it, play something easy and fun. I did manage to get somewhat into Trails in the Sky recently, but knowing it's like 8 games of 50 hours each is demoralizing.

Yeah that's probably a reason I couldn't play Subnautica and a lot of other games. To be fair though, the ocean is pretty horrific place IRL
This is funny cause narrative-survival is my go-to and I translated both subnauticas from the start. It was too bright and fun to be scary, but then I saw Green Hell and put it on a pedestal for so fucking long. Incredibly hard and paranoid. Disgusting parasites in your arms and shit. Then I FINALLY played it and beat it twice on normal without dying. Great fucking game that I conquered. I get these one-off gamer moments so I still wanna play games but when I sit down with a game and recognize how great it is, I often just tap out anyway.

I can agree with you on that, the combat is really fun, but its so hampered by the co-op. Once you start going for the higher difficulties, the bots just aren't up to snuff anymore so you have to either get a good group, or pray rando's aren't retards. I'm extremely anti-social and whenever I feel like I'm carrying more often than not I quickly lose intrest (had to quit WoW because being the only person alive 5 minutes into a raid as a tank and the only person who seems to understand the god damn mechanics got old), so the Tide game sadly just weren't made for me.
