A
reddit thread of lawyers arguing whether or not he's a good attorney. TLDR: They say NO.

When you learn about
Bobby's background, he comes from humble beginnings and has a "great story" . . . But he's basically the right-wing Gloria Allred at this point: taking a case only if he'll get fame and attention along with it, win or lose. Unfortunately, it looks like he puts all his eggs in the wrong baskets and gets burned in the end. Then, he quickly moves onto the next case so you can forget his recent fuck up.
Someone else here once made the point that his whole thing is to belligerently defend the indefensible, having someone in your corner as a public advocate to aggressively push a story favorable to you. You get a champion in public, and he gets to self-aggrandize about defending the little guy (as long as you can pay). From his About page:
Today, Barnes continues to stand up to systems, to bullies, to Big Banks, to the IRS, and to those who would take away those guaranteed freedoms his grandfathers helped establish: free speech and civil rights.
And, he continues to win, for the underdogs, and for those who, like Barnes, face seemingly impossible odds.
If you hire him, this is the service that you're buying. He has cultivated an audience that will believe whatever he says on these topics, and potentially create their own posts and spread the message. While I have doubts as to its real efficacy, this disposition is something that you'd probably generally want in a defense. Where this breaks down and gets absurd is, because these people are considered the indefensible, the defense looks ridiculous to a reasonable person.
Early on with Nick, he
tried to give the defense that it is absurd that the government can classify anything as a controlled substance and take away someone's children, likening this to a state government trying to prevent the sale of a certain farmer's milk. What is left out is that this substance was cocaine. A lot of cocaine. Trying to conflate this with milk in the minds of his audience is ridiculous. What is even more absurd is that he was legally defending that specific farmer, and the reason the state tried to stop his sales was because his milk was
allegedly testing for listeria and E. coli, and may have been making people sick. (

In BarnesWorld: If you're a bitcoin billionaire who maybe revoked your citizenship because you maybe didn't want to pay taxes, then allegedly filed false tax forms, and still got dinged $48 million for your trouble? Corrupt federal government trying to keep a poor man down! If you're a farmer whose product is allegedly making people sick, and maybe you have a long history of things like this alleged by the state?
Corrupt state Department of Agriculture officials trying to keep a poor man down! (

In an emailed statement, Miller's attorney, Robert Barnes, said: "The lawsuit by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is a disgrace to the rule of law, a flagrant violation of Constitutional liberty, and filled with false, fraudulent and perjurious statements by corrupt, out of control high ranking officials too often covered for by complicit media. Amos Miller's food is much healthier, much safer and much better for members, as they make informed consent decisions to choose, than the monopolized, industrialized food of big corporations the PDA is subservient to, and those members have a Constitutional right to get direct farm-to-consumer food they trust as members of a private association. We will respond to the food thieves, farm libelers, and Amish defamers of the PDA in court, and we will bring the truth, unlike the PDA, which feasts on a diet of libelous lies."
And with Nick, we already know the story of the corrupt Kandiyohi County officials who will surely be shown to be liars after the totally deserved Franks Hearing completely destroys their case.
... it was denied? You're not paying, right? Well, everyone already knew that was a long shot!
Goddamn corrupt local government trying to keep a poor Balldo down!
