Why more of these guys don't have their own website doing crowdfunds or selling in general is beyond me. Cecil is a special case. But it's ridiculous how the only ones I can think of that have their own site to sell/crowdfund are Gabe, Shane, Eric Weathers, and Eric July. Baron and Nolen have a site to sell the comics after the crowdfund. But still rely on CF sites. I am sure there are others. But it should be a lot more. Can still set up stuff on IGG/KS/FMC. Or sell on eBay or wherever. But relying on a site that can ban you without a second thought is retarded.

Crowdfunding is always a risk to the supporters, donors, whatever you call those people. It is one thing to contribute due to ideology - that's like donating money to your favorite politicians even when they are already loaded as well as taking side money from big corporations lobbying them, but hey, you are doing it more for yourself, so you do you.

But if you're expecting a quality, finished product on time... well, think about it: they already have your money, so where's the motivation to deliver?

Call me old school or a boomer, but I'd buy a finished product instead of taking part in a crowdfunding for something that I may or may not get in the next 5 years, if at all. I don't have unlimited money to throw away!

Back in the day the risk was that payment processors would just shut down your method of getting money for your product if you had your own site. There have been right wingers that have had their personal and business bank accounts shut down over politics.

So it was better to have some neutral platform that could back you up, although there is the trouble that the neutral platform could also try and censor you especially if you have a very controversial product as Cecil found out.

Of course the risk that payment processors will shut down your storefront is more muted now. Eric July could have never created his own comic store before 2020, Comicsgate and adjacent were under the Eye of Sauron back then. But now he can, partly because SJW screechers have lost some power and partly because they've moved on. Part of the reason they moved on was because of the success Ethan and others had funding on indiegogo. It was very important for CGers to have indiegogo in their corner.

But crowdfunding has been abused for far too long and CG will have to switch tactics I think going forward if they are going to continue. One important change to make is if you are going to crowdfund, then make sure the book is almost done already so it can be shipped out shortly after finishing the campaign. They've gotten greedy and lazy and I think the money train is drying up.

It was determined by the lower rankings of CG that the goal of Crowdfunding on the CG Elite's end of the spectrum was more like a storefront.
In the Animal Farm fashion, the problem solving is left to the grunts, and the "most equal" CG Elite kept using IGG as a storefront. The In-Demand function via IGG made this possible.

As always, Ethan encouraged the lower end of CG to seek ways into physical storefronts, and online retailers.
But this is just an attempt to use the lower ranks to "feel out" alternative marketplaces, and report back results.

I believe it has always been Ethan's goal to use a 3rd party to sell this wares. Doing it Eric's way is too much of a headache for him and involves having the product completed, if not MOSTLY completed before seeking funding.

Maybe he wanted to be like Coffin comics, Pulido also does more crowdfunding than he needs to. But Eatin Fat Wiper is a lot more scammy and unreliable. You will run out of replacement paypigs eventually fatboy.

I have wondered why Pulido bothers with KS when he has a fully functional store and what appears to be a solid and reliable fanbase. I suppose he could be doing it out of habit and using KS' popularity to maximize the amount of eyes on him, but hey at least those guys don't have to sit around for years wondering if they're getting a book.
