Silent Hill

I'm going to try to watch a half hour of Ascension every day. The first ten minutes had me howling. Whatever artificial artificial intelligence (not a typo) wrote this can't recognize self-parody; so every trope is on the table.

You are stronger than me man. I look forward to seeing the highlight reel.

Just realize everytime a character acts retarded a gaggle of twitch streamers voted on that option.

What is the cage turning into a spider-ish thing supposed to represent?
(Yay yt-dlp finally worked! heroicpinoy unprivated his comparison videos so I'm snagging them in case they go private again. This one was the heaviest but it attached fine)

Holy shit, they took ALL the soul out of the dog ending. They removed the images in the credits, but still kept the sounds… for some reason…

And look at how they butchered Mary’s letter. :( I get it’s hard to replicate the emotion, but it was absolutely phoned in. And also it didn’t need music, just her voice and text running in the background.

I can't into the facial animations in this remake. It's so fuckin' egregous with the constant focus and close ups on the characters faces in every scene that it comes off more masturbatory than immersing the player. Bloober seems more focused on thinking they're the next Death Stranding in terms of face scan/animations among other things than understanding what made the performances from the OG actors so good and why they worked.

Also they butchered Angela hard, completely missing the point of the character and all her scenes lacked any weight and impact, which can be said for most of the characters in this game. Her behavior during the knife scene now sounds more like someone just woke her up from a nap or bored out of her mind (which is the actor's template performance from there on out) than being in a trance-like state, then mimicing her dad's intimidating and condesending tone towards James. The staircase scene is particularly bad and comical towards the end when James just up and walks out like, "Well ok, I guess. *leaves*" [End scene]
I think I found that part funny because realitically that's what someone would do after that scenerio, but seeing it happen and the fact that it was a cutscene made it more hilarious to me. Missing the point entierly is this remake's running theme.

Man… Konami/Bloober really loved RE7, with the two bosses posted here both completely missing the mark of the original (but that could be seen when it was announced) but I didn’t expect the final boss to completely ripoff margarite for its second phase and abstract daddy to bust through walls like old man jack.

Zoomers will eat this shit up not because it’s a remake silent hill 2, but because it reminds them of the resident evil remakes ( and RE7 & 8 ).

Yeah, the Dog Ending is completely butchered; they removed the James and Maria head on the screen, and all the funny images from the credits sequence...
Jesus that "babby's first blender project" animation. And they didn't even bother with a new model for Mira, it's the same PS2 dog. I'm curious about the UFO ending now.
Controversial take: I never had a Playstation back in the day and I am indeed too dumb/lazy to get an emulator set up for SH2 original specifically, so I am excited to experience SH2 firsthand in some form after hearing about it for decades.
There's something called PC version (get it from some abandonware site) + Enhanced Edition mod. Cost: 0. Nigger.

Played up to the apartments. Haven’t really looked at any vids of the remake since I wanted to be disappointed in real time. So far it’s… alright, I suppose. The entire new section with Neely’s Bar's jukebox was more or less just filler.

Camera is a thing. Even if they kept the fact that James' actually looks at interactable things shit don’t exactly pop put anymore, so I find myself just mashing buttons and pray James picks something up. ”Retro” template for UI settings is definitely not how the game is intended to be played. Shame.

I find combat a bit… hit and miss? In a literal sense. Sometimes you can dodge and swing once or twice and be fine, others not. No real consistency to how enemies react to hits, so combat more or less become ”bait, smack once, walk backwards, repeat”. Not that OG combat was a life changing experience, but at least it had consistency. But hey, maybe I’m just retarded and don’t get the new shit.

Can’t wait to get to the later parts when they most likely fuck every single character arc up.

Right after the opening comment fellating it as a success (I must have missed the part where this Youtuber faggot was a barometer of success), the faggot says, "The game's cutscenes are now acted out."
The original was already that way and had better direction. Now its emotionless, the final boss is a fucking joke now the dialogue changes are abyssmal and make it seem like some bad porn parody. Everything is censored now, the two pyramid heads cutscene is an example. Eddie is now a violent angry incel, because of fucking course he is you can never trust Bloober to write any unwell characters because these fucking RETARDS somehow understand NOTHING about psychology. Rather than the compelling cowardly body dysmorphic original counterpart. All of these characters are just shallow shells of themselves they may as well be the western characters from Homecoming and such.

What the flying fuck, the rubble and shit falling from the ceiling during the chase sequence.
I presume Maria running ahead of James during the gameplay is scripted, which makes James suddenly teleporting in front of her in the cutscene all the more jarring.

This may seem a bit smug but wtf were people expecting. We live in post-creative times. Modern games are nothing but cargo cults now, the current generation is incapable of creating anything new, much less understanding the depth of the originals. So it becomes a shallow imitation, worse in almost every meaningful way.

I expected nothing different and it's why I don't give a flying fuck. Play/emulate the original with a CRT or play the enhanced edition which is great as far as I've seen

I can't help but notice how the bad the constant ghosting/artifacting around James's head is in this scene.
That's UE5 for you. It's because of the TAA used which smears everything in motion. But if you turn it off it breaks most of UE5 lightning and effects which rely on the blurring introduced by TAA. And so everything looks like a low bitrate YouTube movie. Here's more on this https://youtu.be/lJu_DgCHfx4

Play the Enhanced edition on PC

Me (and a friend who was watching) played up to the apartments where you get the gun. So far, it's ... I am not sure. OG is best obviously.

They changed up some small things for no reason? (I am disappointed some of the Easter Eggs from the original game weren't added or changed.)
Like, in the beginning you could find the radio in the park thing outside, but they changed it to being inside another building.
They changed the suicide victim to be covered in a blanket, not holding a shotgun (or gun, it's been a while since I played the original), which I find stupid because in the original, they reused James's model for that suicide victim, and it in my mind, represents what James kind of wanted to do, but was too cowardly to do. It was a small detail but it added a lot of story, even if it wasn't on purpose. (OG used all the same models, except Laura and Eddie.)
Angela looks wonky and retarded. She looks chubby but has cartoonishly thin arms.
We were making fun of James the whole time. He looks too on the nose of being a depressed, mentally ill individual. The OG James looked fine, but to be fair, that could be because of PS2 graphics. I don't know.
Mary in the beginning sounded bored throughout the whole thing... it really ruined the mood and seriousness of the setting. Really lazy voice acting.

The graphics were good. I liked the small details of running into water and your shoes/pants were wet. I liked seeing the wind go crazy at one point, and seeing the overgrown grass in the cemetary. I think they nailed the cemetary really well.

So far it is meh? They stayed loyal to some of the original parts of Silent Hill, but some of the small stuff was changed a lot. It felt jumpscary, the enemies looked different and I was disappointed in the jumpsuit one looking like a dude in a brown rubber trashbag suit with a big zipper than the original which was his own skin trapping him. Mannequins looked good.

Editted for clarification
