Silent Hill

Man… Konami/Bloober really loved RE7, with the two bosses posted here both completely missing the mark of the original (but that could be seen when it was announced) but I didn’t expect the final boss to completely ripoff margarite for its second phase and abstract daddy to bust through walls like old man jack.

Zoomers will eat this shit up not because it’s a remake silent hill 2, but because it reminds them of the resident evil remakes ( and RE7 & 8 ).
There's a moment where nuPyramid head is chasing James around the warehouse, and there's a suspiciously placed breakable object in the center. I immediately thought of the kitchen table from RE7 and how the big set piece of the intro was Jack breaking the table and having all the little bits go flying to show off the REengine... And as soon as nuPyramid head's model came close to those breakable objects the animation jerked into place and he smashed them awkwardly when James wasn't even near them as if to say, "You remember RE7 right? Ooo look at all the dazzle you easy fucking plebs!"

The smug aura of the demake mocks me.

So it's yet another shitty SH game that tries to appeal to the "modern audience" and poorly apes Resident Evil?
lmfao, well I bet all the remaining fans appreciate having corpse of their favorite game dug out just to be humiliated one more time!
The general normie reaction I am seeing so far is basically this:
It tells you something about the "modern audience" when they worship mere mediocrity, as long as it's not downright shit. I would call it "Stockholm Syndrome" but one has to have been wary of their abusers first at one point before they sympathized with them.

Shillmanlives says he hasn't played a game like this since the first time he played Silent Hill in 1999. :story:

He says something like that about quite literally every single new game he is paid to shill, his opinion is worth less than that of your average /v/ user. Act Man looks downright trustworthy compared to him.

It really makes me angry that zoomers are going to take a game like this and use it for clout chasing for their fucking Twitch channels.

Oh my gawd, I'm totes so scared!

Fucking nazis should have wiped out Poland.
They will forget about it in 2 months, just like nobody is talking about RE4R or DRDR anymore. Niggercattle has real short attention spans nowdays and the fans will clearly not celebrate this piece of trash either. The big remake everyone was waiting years for turned out to be yet another cheap cash-in.

very mixed on what I have seen on this remake so far, might be abit easier on it than most in the thread bc with enhanced edition fixing the pc port I see the original as more or less preserved. horror is a genre that seems to find it easier to have multiple interpretations and blooper seemed to find their own spin on it when before this most normies I saw were shitting on them hard for this being a konami product as well as their previous works like the medium.
Will say it will be annoying that most will just play this and pretend the original is outdated when they either haven't played it or at most just played the hd collection version.
if blooper wants my attention, the only team silent game that could do with a remake at this point is probably the room, considering how it fucked with not having tank controls third person aiming in the exploration segments would be a godsend and some of that quick loading could really benefit the apartment horror stuff with seemlessly loading shit in and out as well as adding new horrors not in 4.
tho most likely they will just skip straight to sh 3 because heather is iconic, maybe go back to sh 1 since it leads into 3 despite shattered memories being a "sorta kinda but not really" remake but not touch 4 since it's seen as the black sheep of the team silent era

I've seen some gameplay, and it's not the worst remake to ever come out. It just looks dull. The graphics and gameplay changes are nice, but it's lost the soul that the OG SH2 had. I feel the same about the RE4 remake though.

I think Konami has now found their cash cow, making remakes of their most popular IPs rather than creating new games that push the horror genre foward. I can see this with Metal Gear too. Weird how they've gone for sequels rather than the first games such as SH1 and MGS1 which I would say are more deserving of a remake.

At least they won't touch Castlevania SOTN. Thank fuck for that.

It kinda does make sense for their choices, Konami is trying to once again make a movie based on Silent HIll and that will be an adaptation of SH2, so this is sorta an attempt at brand synergy I guess. add onto that that Shattered Memories was marketed as a remake of SH1 so they might be reluctant remake that again bc of brand confusion
MGS delta is alot easier to understand, its status as a prequel is seen as a jumping on point while the environments are developed enough that it won't take a complete overhaul (I saw a interview where delta's director said the amount of freedom the new camera added made it so they had to heavily change the ai). also helps that the last game was set in the "big boss era" so you could copy and paste alot of shit from MGS V into unreal engine. Excited for that one alot more than SH 2 because shit like the togglable piss yellow filter and classic camera shows the dedication they are going with that one.

would say they could always make a collection with a translated saturn version of SOTN that has new areas but a fan translation was made for that so they missed the boat on that

Don't give them ideas. I'm sure they released those compilations to see how much interest normies have in Castlevania after hooking them with the Netflix show. And for some reason they still refuse to release the Requiem collection on PC, so who says they won't put a remake in its place.

actually including Dracula x chronicles remake of rondo of blood would be a good reason to re-release requiem multiplatform considering psp emulators still make it a bitch to run

Oh.
My expections were low, but how the fuck do you fuck something like that?

Old media would present you with stuff to react to, whereas Current Year media explicitly dictates the only way you're allowed to react to it. It's all part of the ongoing epidemic of the 2010s in which "AAA" video game developers - operating under the arrogant belief that they're crafting a purely cinematic experience - don't want to afford the player the freedom to divert from the movie script they fallaciously regard their game narrative as being. Why attempt to recapture the emotion that sold the original performance, when you can play sad music under the monotone line reading to explicitly convey what the player can't be trusted to infer?

Crapcom did the same when they passed over the RE sequels most in need of a remake (e.g., Code Veronica) in favor of remaking what most fans considered their best game; purely so people would buy it for the tenth time in twelve years.

Which is really interesting when you think about how Death of the Author has been pushed, yet only seems to apply when convenient.

Out of everything I've seen so far, including a playthrough I'm watching, it's extremely average. The overwhelmingly positive scores are bizarre and all the smug "apologize to Bloober" posts are insufferable. What's really getting me is the largely wooden voice acting. James is fine for the most part but Maria sounds like she doesn't give a shit about anything.

I'll be honest, the Dog ending did get a couple laughs out of me, but they ruined it by taking out all the silly pictures and bloopers. Mira growling and Maria moaning are just random sound effects now.
