Add this to the mountain of proof that “graphics don’t matter” is absolutely wishful thinking :optimistic: insofar as the niggercattle gaymer masses are concerned (right up there with the bluepoint slop remakes). Fuck making new IPs, just desecrate a beloved classic with horrible artistic direction but a fancy schmancy coat of AAA paint and the masses will eat that polished turd up.

One major thing that made the Silent Hill series (and also Siren) cool was that the games blended fixed camera angles with free roaming so they felt less "stiff" than the earlier Resident Evil games, but still retained a creepy atmosphere. Anyone who watches a lot of horror films knows that unconventional camera angles do a lot to create feelings of unease, and a free roam camera removes this.
Bigly this. It also allows the developers to more craftily fuck with you.
 
Silent Hill 3 reference possibly. I don't appreciate its inclusion since the only Halo Of The Sun you see was a prototype with the 4 rings in the Prison Cell. If Konami gave a shit about Silent Hill "lore" as much as they do MGS it should be mandatory reading to developers but it simply isn't, plus no one will take it seriously and those who do seem like autists or cunts.

The original director Tsuboyama apparently made a Xitter account just to ballwash the remake and shit on the original camerawork. This surely isn't astroturfing to give the impression its got the golden graces of the original team. Then again, modern japs have sold out their games for immersion. The original camera felt great with the modern control scheme in sh2, then in 3 they added a cool zoom feature with it. Makes me wish 4 kept a legacy camera. The character being up James ass and James taking up most of the screen like a fucking Batman Arkham game (I love that trilogy but still), is truly Immersive especially when it seemingly bumps into geometry in tighter spaces that you never had to deal with in the trilogy. I guess cheaper horror relies on a claustrophobic camera. Fidelity isn't immersion, game logic is a defining point of immersion. A code of laws, alien, or logical, is immersion. Modern game logic is stagnant and not immersive because it is the bare minimum of what to expect rather than being something interesting to play with. Details ≠ Immersion. 1000291843.jpg

I keep saying it and I keep being vindicated: the Japanese are on average consumer whores of the highest degree.
 
Regarding the character upgrades, I don't think they're ugly per se but they do have that "Japanese person drawing a white person from memory" quality that you sometimes see in Japanese games, though Bloober being Polish confounds the issue. They've made James's hair distractingly blonde and Eddie looks like a cartoon version of Chris Farley.

I don't have any real opinion about Angela's new look except that she actually looks like a teenager now.
It might have just been me, or maybe my PC settings, but I think - not sure - that James' hair colour changes slightly depending on what ending route you're adhering to the most. Sometimes he looked blonde, ginger, and greying. I could be pulling it out of my ass but he kept alternating between blonde and grey as I played.
 
Care to elaborate? So many years had passed between my playing the original and remake that the only thing I found myself rolling my eyes at were the dated boss fight mechanics being preserved. I know characters only there to round out the cast of corpses were race-swapped or implied to be some sort of "space gay" - But all I'm recalling is that every one of them were brutally eviscerated and dismembered. That's equality.

Dead Space Remake added a bunch of bloat to the characters where things were originally efficient and unmuddled. They made Hammond (Black soldier ally man) have a lot of overrought pathos about one of the guys at the beginning of the game dying and rather than him being torn to shreds by a Brute type necromorph he ends up getting fooled by the corpse of his dead mate into an heroing.

Kendra (Traitor whore) gets visions of passed loved ones and a lot more done to wring sympathy out of her character as possible before she betrays you, then sincerely explains her betrayal of Isaac and theft of the Marker as being for the best.

The kind of changes that change the fundamental dynamic you have with these characters. Hammond and Kendra in the originals are consumate professionals and do their duty to a fault, but both are mashed in the Necromorph meat grinder anyway. The more stuff you strap on to them the more you take away from that efficiency.

Did they keep the walter sullivan grave or did they try update it to tease a silent hill 4 demake (jesus christ how horrifying)

Honestly of all the SH games you would have a good reason to remake, you could make a case for 4. A version that you'd actually want to play more than once would be nice. Not that I trust anyone to make it.

dead space remake was totally ruined by ea's motive studio. motive studio is a woke activist studio full of feminists, blm and alphabet supporters, just go do a deep google about that studio and you find out.

at least sh2 remake didnt get the race swap, alphabet insert and the tranny toilet treatment.
