I think that, after having communities fucked up by illegals and bank accounts raped by terrible economic and fiscal policy, a lot of white people are starting to vote practically as opposed to voting ideologically. It's not even people "waking up," it's a lot of people having their nice lives interrupted for no good reason. Yuppies and wealthy older types are happy to sign checks to their party and vote blue all the way down the ballot until they can't afford as many nice things and they can't go to their recreation center because it was turned into a shelter for ungrateful illegals who sit around all day smoking cigarettes and drinking beer.

The ultra-wealthy don't care because they have money to burn, but people who make the lower end of six figures still have bills to pay.

I disagree entirely. There is a common misconception people have where they think economy = value of the dollar + cost of living, and while for many people this is the case, for a lot of older gen X and boomer types, the economy to them is basically, economy = %/yr stock, home equity, 401K/Roth IRA gains/losses. This being the case leads to a lot of older people seeing their assets rise in value over time and just believing that it doesn't matter that their dollar is worth less as most of their dollars are invested in assets, and those assets "appear" to be rising faster than inflation. This is a retarded view on the economy though as if you aren't already bought into the market not only are you not seeing the positive gains, but you're also getting pushed further and further away from being able to afford to invest. Then there's the obvious overvaluation of assets, where people don't seem to realize that the reason their assets are going up is not because they are more valuable but because trillions of dollars were pumped into the economy without any value being created.

I do not disagree with you that there are people who think exactly like this. What I am arguing is that some of these people are starting to change their minds because they're not so wealthy that everything costing 30% more doesn't matter. Some of these people are starting to change their minds because illegals are getting dumped into their communities and fucking them up.

Even if their portfolio is going up, they still have to buy shit on a daily basis and deal with illegals behaving like savages.

This just further cements my view that DeSantis' worst issue was that he surrounded himself with shady people and that they probably prodded him into blowing his load early and gunning for 2024. Pushaw in particular gives me the creeps because she comes across like a younger Ann Coulter, glow connections included. I feel like the people around DeSantis, for one reason or another, are what led to him feeling overconfident and that 2024 was the right time to announce, I think desantis himself had doubts but his wife egged him on too, and once he began to realize he had sunk his national level support he finally pulled back.

DeSantis seems to be an excellent governor from everything I've seen, he is intelligent, prepared and willing to be out with the public. I don't think he really had the temperament for being on the national stage at this time, maybe in more normal times sure, but the president right now needs to be someone who can take the constant shitposting of negativity and roll with it instead of getting visibly flustered and weirder. Time will tell if he can find himself in the right setting to be president but I'm sure there are a lot of Floridians glad to have him home with them instead of campaigning right now.

Yeah, it was poor hyperbole on my part, I realized how wrong I was when I started thinking about how much I enjoy the indie scene, been getting into lots of them but have completely abandoned AAA games.
