Silent Hill

Can someone explain wtf is going on with the game and it's reception?

Depending on what I read, it's either a trash fire going down in flames, or it's a new classic that makes the original obsolete. Then there's the activists claiming to have "owned the chuds" by having a censored game be a success, then there's people saying the game is a failure because it's barely broke 25,000 players (steam charts has no info atm).

I'm expecting this to mean the game is mediocre, or for it to be another Starfield where the initial hype dies after a few days once the honeymoon is over, but I have no idea.

If Steam Charts doesn't have info, check SteamDB. It says there are ~21k players right now and the peak was ~23k, which IMO is good for a game whose fanbase is more tourists and longass youtube essay viewers than actual players, but the big question is, will it maintain those numbers for a long time?

Reddit and YouTube has a generally good reaction to the game. Steam also has a good reaction to the game. However, 4chan and sites like it (kiwi farms for instance) have a negative reception towards it because of culture war stuff. If you're willing to be patient, wait for a few months and see how the reception is then, because that's how long it took for the star field bubble to completely pop.

Looking at the steam player count, it has a total peak on par with Resident Evil 7 which was considered to be a hail Mary for Capcom at the time it released. Of course, it doesn't compare to any of the later entries in the series (look at Re4 remake for lols). Time will tell if it was actually successful though. A big part of re7's success in reigniting the franchise was its long legs and word of mouth while there was a survival horror drought.

I don't think these sorts of games ever do. Most people are just gonna play it once and drop it - maybe twice to get an ending they want. The people I feel who will get the most of it will be the fans of the original experiencing another take on the classic, seeing all the differences and reinterpretations, but that's it. The game is competent, but not compelling. It doesn't linger in the mind and beckon you with its experience like the original did. So I doubt people will come back to it after long. I'm not sure what Konami was planning here. Maybe they're warming up tech and market for a new SH? But if their intention was at all to replace the original, that was utterly foolish.

One thing that this remake did make me think about it: They should package in a playable copy of the original with a remake of a game. To me, a large part of the value in experiencing a remake is seeing how it rethinks elements of the original, and for those who want to indulge this side of things, they can first play the original and then the remake.

It looks like the great defenders of demake slop are already done "enjoying" their game and going on full-blown damage control mode.
Okay, this is confusing me? Is a demake now just a remake you want to bitch out? That you don't like? Before it was just a remake on lower fidelity specs/hardware. The SH2 remake is a remake. It's on higher fidelity graphics. Are those graphics good? Eh. It does the job but I can tell it's unreal engine. Is the game good? EH. But it's still a remake. Calling it a demake shows everyone what I already knew the moment I heard the term: That the naming is FUCKING RETARDED. It's a fucking remake no matter if you do it for a ps1 or a ti84.

Also, can anybody show me who coined the term demake? I looked it up and allegedly it was Phil Fish. Phil Fish. You know, that insufferable queer who made Fez and fuck all else because he knew he was a one trick pony. When you say "demake" you speak with the tongue of a Canadian - a man who is to society as mold is to bread.

I remember hearing that too at the time, and it's pretty funny when you think about it. If anything, RE7 is the sort of game that Capcom should have been making, considering the popularity of first person horror games from the indie scene as well as the lightning rod attaching the RE ip to such a game would make.

Nothing good that is Silent Hill related has been produced since SH3. SH4 is a good concept and half a good game.

Anything else is shit and the faggots championing the goymake are probably also mad that Concord bombed and The Acolyte got cancelled.
Looks like the belief that "anything made by my time is good while fuck the past works" is in full effect for this younger generation and many older people are also included in this mentality. They're the type of mindless consumers that these big corpos want anyway. "You will consume all our products and you will like it" and all that.

Which is being smothered in the crib for SH2 because of the afforementioned gloating by the DEI hires and just how shitty the ending is.

Meaning the effects of the Remake are going to take a while to fully be in effect. Wait till the cycle of streamers finish.
I think I'm going to pirate and try this game. But I've already seen the ending itself and I agree with everyone, it's just so shit.

Like the sheer horror of finding what you did and just how apolegetic and unsure Mary is, it's just gone. And the music trying to tell me what to think is just pissing me off.
It's like... accurate portrayal of suicidal thoughts being warped into suicidal ideation by people that never had to deal with that kind of shit before.

A demake is a remake that is inferior to the original, simple as. Graphics don't mean shit and anyone who claims they do is a moron, the game is clearly inferior to the original and I doubt team bloober even understood it, let alone knew how to improve on SH2.
Feel free to call it whatever you want, tho

The recent generations seem to think that everything they do is superior to what people of the past thought. Very narcissistic behavior, you can tell this is the case by them using terms like "progress", showing how anyone who doesn't support flooding their country with migrants or allowing kids to get castrated is outdated and will get left behind. Same thing with video games, that's why every single product of the past needs to be "updated" and caught-on with the future. You can even see this in software department, where apparently archiving older versions of programs and using them over the new ones or choosing if you want to opt out of updates is some sort of sin.
Of course, every generation has only gotten dumber and more uneducated, at least in the states, so this is all coming from a place of ignorance. This is exactly why I don't care a single bit that either our society or gaming as an industry is coming apart, since this is what the cattle deserves.

Isn't demake a term that refers to stuff like FF7 on the NES and Halo on the Atari 2600? Remember seeing that word used to refer to those sorts of things long before Fez was a thought. Anyway, I don't like what they did to my man James Sunderland. He looks weird in this remake. I'll stick with the original.

Demake can refer both to that very specific type of programming project or merely as an insult for a remake. Anyone mad that someone is using the word in the other of the two ways is being a language autist.

I think that the "we're better than the past generation" mentality got way worse in this generation. I remember old folks and before them telling us that "our generation didn't act like this unlike the next one" etc., we'd joke around it but at least the younger generation still has some modicum of respect for the generation before them. Now, it's "we're better than you / my feelings override everything and if you don't agree with me, you're an -ist" and it's easy to blame social media and the internet for that. And I won't argue about every generation's getting dumber if their short attention spans from making social media their preferred reality and the need for instant gratification are any indication. Trust me, that's not limited in the US.

Also, I get a laugh at today's society and their constant demand for game remakes.......there's a reason why emulators exist.

Update: I'm almost done at the apartments. They pretty much put the first and "sections" together. So far it reminds me way more of downpour than SH2. More opened world like.

The "media literacy" types have decided it's OK the SH2 remake looks like overdone and also underwhelming graphic slop.

"Actually, chuds, we understand art and media and if you had real media literacy, you'd understand SH2 needed a useless 'remake' just because the original's graphics were 'old', and "the GRAPHICS are OLD!!!!" is a good reason for a remake where they didn't even fix the clunkiness of the boss fights was totally necessary and a simple, good port of the original game would not have done."

I know there's a lot of well deserved suspicion surrounding this remake, I think it's pretty bloody good, aurally especially, some of the best work is there.

The voice acting is surprising in its quality...one thing i appreciate is the more or less totally changed puzzles...thats what re4 remake should've done, that was lazier than this imo.

It's not woke at all and i cant really see what was modernaudienceified about it, my advice would be to wait for a mild sale then get it.

The media literacy types have latched onto a new form of gaslighting where if you don't like something, you simply don't understand it. It was the same shit way back with Lost and it makes me want to curbstomp them.

And of course the author of the article did not archive NOR screenshot, merely linking to a now non existent tweet
Luckily someone DID archive it back when they tweeted that.

You sound mad about something, literally the only big change is Angelas appearance that could be described as bad (woke), but the new voice is probably what informed that change.

I don't know people, what did you want, just literally the same game again?

I'm the first person to hate disrepecting the source material, but I don't think thats the case here, I think some people painted themselves into a corner with their attitude regarding this game, and rather than admit you may have been slightly wrong you're doubling down like bunch of bluehairs.

I'm going to say something else you can laugh your arse off at, I think the combat is way more fun in this than the original, always close to death on hard, nice tense gameplay.

Not a big fan of the Leonification of James however, his hair looks out of place, it's hardly massive problem though, again it was probably an attempt to marry the VO to the face.
