Mega Rad Gun Thread

Why? If they're going to stick to 5.56, there's no reason to drop the M4 when there are a billion of them already in service. Unless they're going to issue a suppressor to literally everyone, the only benefit the MCX offers is ambi controls, and there are plenty of AR lowers they could choose from instead.
IIRC making a suppressor standard is part of the plan. Though I'm sure they can do that without having to adopt a new rifle.

I guess that is a red dot in a nutshell but they have some sort of method for shooting at close quarters with an ACOG.
Occluding the objective with a flip cap really makes close shooting easy as long as your eyes aren’t fucked up.
Trijicon makes a wide variety of ACOG models, from the 1.5x compact model all the way up to the 6x DMR/GPMG model. And every model comes with a wide variety of reticles for 5.56x45mm, .300 Blk, 7.62x39mm, and 7.62x51mm. I believe the 1.5x and 2x compact ACOGs even have a more generic cross hair style reticle that have no BDC hashmarks better suited for close quarters shooting with a subgun or PCC, since those types of weapons aren't typically used for engaging targets at longer ranges, so compensating for bullet drop isn't a concern.

I've actually been considering getting either a 3.5x or 4x ACOG for my MWS308 and putting it on a quick change mount that will retain zero when removed and replaced so that I can swap the Aimpoint Comp M4 for it when I want magnification. I do have a second upper for it that has an Elcan Spectre TR scope that I plan on building up as a DMR with a 20" barrel for when I really want longer range, but I wouldn't mind being able to have magnification on the primary upper without the extra weight of a magnifier and having bullet drop compensation.
Sounds like you should run an acog with an offset mini red dot.
@Romulus augustulus A b5 would be my second pick since that’s actually combat proven, the UBR looks all fancy and new and I’m sexually attracted to it. A b5 would be better since I could have a cheek weld on the adjustable portion of the stock instead of the static buffer tube portion.

What’s going to be better for multifaceted use? A Steiner or an Acog or Vortex? I’ll be using this rifle for hunting next season just to get some field training with it outside of the range. What kind of reticle did your Steiner use? Best case scenario I can find something like range finder reticle to line up a target and gauge the distance up to 600 yards.
What is your distance you plan on shooting this rifle?

I recommend a 2 point sling for a gun that long, but if you think you want a single point, then get a 2 point to single point convertible so you can try both without having to buy different slings. Blue Force gear is fine.

I would shoot as is before changing anything. You can get a rail wrap like a Wise Men Company “Hot Pocket” to mitigate heat on the front.

Also consider a white light if you plan to use this rifle seriously. And/or a IR Laser/Illuminator if you are getting night vision.

Make sure to get 10-20 spare magazines minimum.

Checked my sun room front entry and saw another package from Firearms Direct Club even though I already received my shit a few days ago.
Opened up, and there was a second Holosun 4078)
Guess they fucked up my order, but I'm not too bent out of shape about it. Guess I need to get something to put it on, maybe time to build another Glock or get a decent .22 pistol.

Any suggestions for another gun with an RMR footprint?

I'm going to guess that SCOTUS will rule against Mexico.

i'm narrowing down the choice on MP5 optics to either a holosun 510c or a PA GLX2x on a low profile MI rail. i'm leaning towards the prism scope since it seems to be what i'd want from the mini acog while in an actually reasonable price range. this has been a harder call to make. the irons work so well that i don't want to replace them with a range tier red dot, maybe the 510c would work? the 507k on my dad's pistol is nice and clear. besides the sights i know for sure i'm going to put a KES tailhook brace on about a month from now.

also if nobody has mentioned it HKparts has magpul G17 and G19 magazines on clearance for about ten bucks each

@John Badman regarding slings, I prefer two-point slings for carbines, rifles, and full-size shotguns. When the weapon is long and on the heavier side I've found two-point slings keep the weapon closer to your body and more secure, so the weapon doesn't bounce around as much when you're moving, especially if you don't have hands on the weapon at that time to steady it. One-point slings are nice for shorter, lighter weight weapons like SBRs, PCCs, subguns, and SBSs.

My personal favorite sling is the TAB Gear Pinnacle Rifle Sling. It is simply the best sling I've ever used, and I've used a ton of slings. It is over-built like a fucking Iowa class battleship, is nice and wide to disperse the weight better and not dig into your neck and the top of your shoulder, and TAB offers quite a few options to configure it. I own two, a black one and an OD green one, both with Cobra Buckles to configure the sling or to quickly get free if you get snagged on something.

I plan on getting two more so that I have one on each of my defensive long guns. The reason I only have two right now is because they ain't cheap, especially if you get them configured with the Cobra buckles instead of the cheaper side-release buckles. I think they start at $120 and they're like $170 or something with the Cobra buckles, but I'm a big believer in quality over quantity and buy once, cry once. Especially when it comes to something I may have to trust my life or the lives of my family to.

If it's too dogshit then just do what I and some friends do here with a local Argentine brand called Waffen (yes it's a real thing) and pop the projectiles out and reload them yourself consistently (or do Juan's recargas gauchas handloads), with how retardedly expensive ammo is here and how hard it is to get smokeless it's super worth it, but you're American so ymmv.
I've shot blazer in other guns, it's not THAT bad, maybe just a dud every once or a while lol.
One guys experience. I've shot ~1000 rounds of Blazer brass 124 gr 9mm in the last year with no issues I can remember. Seems to be generally well regarded online, only some issues with people shooting the aluminum stuff in PCCs. They're among the cheaper brands that aren't turkshit, rebranded turkshit, or remans, but I think that's due to volume more than poor quality.
This is basically my experience. I'll be shooting it in a pistol, not a PCC, and I expect to burn through it fast breaking the SD40 2.0 in. As long as most of it shoots, and from prior experience I really have no reason to think it won't work, I'm happy. It's cheap range fodder, not save my life shit. That's what I bought this for:

Speer G2 Gold Dot from all the tests I've seen FUCKS. This is the save my life ammo. The Blazer is just practice. I'll eventually pick up other brands, been looking at that syntech shit, but Blazer is just the start of The Horde TM

Any suggestions for an RMR footprint dot?
Trijicon RCR.

I have experience with both of these optics. The 510C is a fine optic. Decent glass (slight blue tint), big window, donut of death reticle that I really like since I'm primarily an EOTech user, but it's an open emitter, which allows water, snow or other debris to potentially occlude the emitter. The GLX 2X is actually a really great optic. Very clear glass, nice reticle for the low level of magnification, reticle gets very bright, and 2x magnification doesn't hinder both-eyes-open close-up shooting with a little practice. The BDC dots and ranging bars would pretty much be useless on an MP5, but they're easy to ignore and don't illuminate.

I'm going to say get the GLX 2X and give it a try. PA has a 90 day satisfaction guarantee, so you can use it and decide if you like it or not.

Maybe it would make the people in charge look a bit better, if at least something came out of the program

🤷‍♂️

I agree, not necessary to change from the M4. Just stick a URGI upper to most of them and call it a day.

2x is unnecessary on a 9mm. Don’t they make a 1x prism?

I think my laziness in getting the 8x instead of 6x created another problem for me. Since it’s a budget SFP my BDC holds don’t scale unless if I’m cranked up to 8. That’s not an issue for hunting unless if I need to get wider field of view, I can remedy this by dialing in from 1 to 8 when I get positive identification on something like a standing deer.

The issue is this isn’t ideal for tracking left or right and holding for wind up to 10 mph.

Another thing I’ve realized is quick target acquisition, if I’m running circuit drills shooting and scooting I’ll need to keep mental note on what magnification I’m on and engrain that muscle memory to flip back to 1.

I’m considering adding a dedicated offset red dot, what I have in mind is a Trijicon SRO. Ideally I want a wider window compared to what I have on my pistol currently. The idea I have is to use the red dot from 0-50/100 yards if the daylight bright is good enough and then use the bdc donut to dial in longer midrange shots where I would actually be using the bdc wind holds.

This is all going on my Christmas or Black Friday sale list, I’m promising myself I won’t spend anymore money unless if it’s ammo or a new stock. I like the A2 grip enough to keep it and I’ll even stay with the GI sling for now, but the m4 usgi stock I have now is an uncomfortable sharp piece of shit. I’ll probably go downtown some time this weekend to the tacticool store and see if they have something comfier.

I've tried a few sub-$500 LPVOs and they all sucked. Vortex Strike Eagle, Sig Tango-MSR, and a Primary Arms 1-6 that I can't remember the name of. That said, I'm also biased against LPVOs. I just don't like them.

I really like ACOGs with top mounted red dots. I got to try a TA02 (red crosshair) with a top mounted RMR and it was fantastic. I do most of my shooting 100 yards and in, so I use EOTechs with 3x magnifiers, but if I was ever going to set up a gun primarily for 100-400 yards, I'd get a TA02 w/ RCR on top.

I know some people look down on the LED models, but not having to deal with taping and untaping the fiber optic was nice. No sudden reticle blooming because the sun decided to come out.
