Driving through a Midwestern swing state on rural rolling hills, the farms were fully into the rhythms of the corn harvest, and awash in political signs.

In front of one otherwise unremarkable farm, I noticed something:

A hand-painted, stenciled, very large Harris/Walz sign. Blue. White lettering. Three white stars above the candidate names, carefully stenciled in.

"Wow," I said to the other people in the vehicle. "That's a gesture of genuine enthusiasm. Kind of crazy, I didn't think anyone liked her that much...maybe they just really hate Trump?"

We kept driving. A few miles later, at a totally different farm...there's a hand-painted, very large Harris/Walz sign. Blue. White lettering. Three white stars...well, you get the picture.

Once we started seeing them, we couldn't unsee them. Drove hundreds of rural miles and saw dozens. They are clearly mass-produced to some degree and given to the farmers as a way of making their support look more genuine and heartfelt.

I didn't think to capture any photos. Kiwi bros, if you see these "hand-painted" or makeshift signs somewhere, can you obtain some pictorial evidence? I'd love to see some side-by-side.

Former Detroit Police Chief Craig looked to be a viable Republican opponent to Whitmer in 2022, but he and other Republican front-runners were removed from the primary ballot for having too many invalid signatures thanks a shitty job by the petition company that handled their campaigns. The people involved were charged for that debacle, but the democratic AG (Dana Nessel) was probably happier to see Republicans crash and burn than she was to enforce the law. In fact, I'm not sure the case has even seen a verdict yet.

Long story short, Michigan saw several Z-list candidates running for key state offices in 2022. Between that, poor turnout by Republicans across the state, and a concentrated effort by the Dems to take advantage of the chaos, Michigan Republicans lost big in 2022 and Democratic ballot proposals regarding election law and abortion law passed easily.

In today's age of instant gratification, waiting in line is likely deemed problematic and oppressive. In presidential election years, the turnout at my precinct seldom gets beyond 50-55% and the longer lines tend to move quickly because the city somehow manages to have eough poll workers handling check in and processing of ballots to keep everyone moving in a smooth organized manner.
