Powerleveling a little but I actually know a couple people who work, or worked, at NASA. They were by no means right wing but even years ago they were annoyed with how all of the projects were falling behind but they were being constantly called into meetings to discuss moments of silence for whatever bullshit was trending on social media.

The graph you posted previously is also misleading, while NASA's budget has gone down that graph shows a percent relative to federal budget which has massively increased. At its most funded NASA received 5.25 billion in 1965 which is roughly 34 billion adjusted for inflation in 2020. In 2020 NASA received 22.5 billion dollars, which is a decrease from its all time high, but not the 5x decrease your graph would suggest.

At its most funded NASA received 5.25 billion in 1965 which is roughly 34 billion adjusted for inflation in 2020. In 2020 NASA received 22.5 billion dollars, which is a decrease from its all time high, but not the 5x decrease your graph would suggest.

Even if your numbers are correct, that means ~33% of their budget has been cut. Not good when modern data collection methods could easily justify a budget increase and building giant hunks of metal hasn't exactly got much cheaper even with automation. Machine tool shops don't make that shit for free, workers need paychecks.

There's a reason they used fucking Russian spacecraft and Elon's space dinghies (still better than Boeing apparently) to get up to the ISS. They discontinued the Space Shuttle program in 2011. Universities already had proto-SJWs and technically Elevatorgate happened one month before that, but woke culture was barely getting a foothold back then. Occupy etc.

Actually, this is something I was thinking about editing in earlier but didn't, which was that cost of computing and advancements in machining would actually make their modern budget stretch significantly further. Remember, this is what they had back in 1965:

Yeah not the most novel observation in the world. In Mason's defense, watching thermal imaging camera footage is slightly more entertaining than a time-lapse of someone taking point measurements with a non contact scanner and plotting the data in Excel.

The point wasn't to criticize the experiment or purchase, it was to criticize ThunderL00ps method of criticism as he will always shit talk others for doing experiments he can "replicate" with a few dollars off of Amazon but does not apply the same standard to himself in any capacity. The point of that part of the post was to show how vapid and worthless most of his commentary is in regards to such things as it can be just as easily applied to him.

I think more people doing experiments, even if stupid or redundant is a good thing.
