I’m not sure where Vaedo originally confessed that info. Likely a podcast or chat room sometime before then.

Vaedo’s supposedly using the money to pay people working for him, investing it makes no sense. I’m leaning towards a possible shitcoin loss too, as who knows what the fuck he’s really doing. All of Vaedo’s updates to his backers on Indiegogo read like excuses & bullshit to the trained eye.

Most of those accounts will reduce pay outs if you're over certain amounts while requiring direct deposits a month at a set amount with a ton of fees attached. So if we take Vito at his word (lol) he clearly did some bullshit google math and got FUCKED by the fine print.

Speaking from experience, putting out a comic is a lot more work than most people realise at the outset. Superkiller definitely could have been done solo, but with the amount of money he got it was sensible to hire people to do the boring shit like lettering and colors.

It's just a shame he waited until the book was already overdue to hire these people, but I guess that's academic at this point.

There are talented comic makers that can do everything, then there is people like Vedo "Idea guys". I really don't know why guys who just write and don't draw insist on making comics but freelancers will take their money to draw/color/letter.

In trad comics, there were 3 people (penciller inker colorist) involved in the process to make it smoother as it was industrialized. Beyond that there was lettering. Idk anything about Vitos book but methinks he wants to adhere to industry conventions as close as possible because he's a retard. One person can do everything but it will take more time and effort (I'm in the process of one, the juggling act is quite difficult). Some of that can be reduced if the single person is good at all 3 and uses a monochrome artstyle like with manga. Japan produces 3 times the amount of comics the west produces in the same time frame cause of that.

The catch to this is the inking should be twice as good if not thrice as good for the comic to not look bland (which is why Sin City is the only western comic which has survived having a monochrome style without color variants). No western artist born after 1980 has that level of inking skill unfortunately, expecting manga level inking skills is bad as it is, it's impossible with somebody like Vito whos making a comic purely to spite Eric July, not because he cares about the thing. I sorta find myself agreeing with Sven now in that all of these people, the indie creators, make stuff to compete with each other, not because they want to make good stuff. Its pathetic.

There are western artists who can stand their own in the monochrome sphere. Bernie Wrightsons Frankenstein can go toe to toe with Vagabonds art anyday. Brian Bolland is another good example although his shit is always colored into, monochrome releases of his work are just stunning. The problem is gauging popularity cause audiences are not as receptive to monochrome especially coming from the anglosphere. Its probably better now with the proliferation of manga but it certainly wasnt that good during the height of capeshit. Western audiences still are not accustomed to seeing comic books in the same vein as high art so theres no point producing painting quality images for the purpose of comicking which has a snowballing effect of artist quality and art education quality reducing. This wasnt the case in the 80s and 90s when people like Bernie Wrightson and Alex Ross could've easily become professional artists instead of comic book artists, its a blessing that they chose to work in the comic sphere. Its a bit similar to how the first few generations of film score composers were classically trained in the vein of Bach and Beethoven, people like Morricone or Max Steiner and the quality of film scores got diluted as score composition slowly detached itself from classical music education. Manga creators working in the west though, there have been few instances and all but one of them are shit (Katsuhiro Otomos Batman short story is pretty good). Also the way snikt was colored was a popular gradient coloring format in the 2000s, there were several Boys issues which had good art absolutely ruined by this gradient format.

Unfortunately I dont think people in CG understand this, heck most artists in the social media art sphere dont understand the nature of the craft and they all end up making shit which will not last very long. A lot of the art sphere is focused on making entertainment and coomer shit which is fine as the cream but if theres no cake then its pointless to do so.
