Factorio Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Won't be able to play until Friday, FUCK!!!
Don't worry about it, there's still some kinks they need to work out, they had like two patches beyond the initial 2.0 rollout (2.0.7). Give it a little time for your favorite mods to update, too, and get mods that fix the aggravating parts. Landfill, at least in Space Age is twice as expensive (50 stones a pop, probably to counter the fact that it's reversible and you can undo excessive fill--the icon now looks like a fudge brownie), and you have to use copper wires instead of copper plates for the medium and large power plants, which makes it more inconvenient in malls.

I'm maybe 12-15 hours in and I still haven't gotten to new planets. I'm playing on Peaceful mode but in addition to screwing around with things to send to space, there's lots to do including dealing with shortages, expanding stuff (already unlocked "yellow science" but don't have anything actually making it yet). By tomorrow I should be able to figure out how to process space science effectively (it looks like it's just made with space junk) and get to work unlocking Gleba.

The wiki is also still on Version 1.x without much in the way of Space Age content or updating (example of page) but this should change soon.

It would have been smart to shorten the path to space science now that there is so much locked behind it, did they not do that?
they did, massively.
you can launch rockets at blue science, purple and yellow are no longer required
rockets are dirt cheap compared to what they used to cost
and once you set up your first space platform all you have to do is build some asteroid collectors, crushers, chem plants and assemblers on it. the platform can then collect asteroids and process them into space science, which it will then automatically drop down on your landing pad. once that is set up, space science is effectively free.

No blueprints (except balancer), no mods (except factory planner). About to automate military science, I raised the starting area of the biter free zone to about 300% and I just saw the first few nests on the radar.

6+ hrs in but I love taking my sweet ass time building my starter base. I think I am in a world of hurt. Just planted my first 50 turrets on the south edge of my base, and now I have to steel myself for my vanguard run to destroy these subhuman monsters. Better get some fish.

Also, genuinely how good does it feel to love a game made by people who are excellent engineers and who love their player base?

Starting over made me realize just how ass I am at feeding gun turrets on the move when doing early game turret crawls against biter bases. That's a skill I haven't practiced in years.

So I actually managed to get a second day in. For perspective, I haven’t actually installed Space Age yet. Im at yellow science with a functioning sushi science, which is the furthest I’ve gotten. I’m thinking I’ll be launching a rocket tomorrow, though I may be limping over the finish line.

Finally made it to Gleba. I stupidly didn't put turrets on my space platform so it just got heavily destroyed en route.

Looks like I'll be stuck here for a while.

I went to Fulgora on the third day after dragging my feet fucking around with nuclear tech on Nauvis. My space platform survived fine and will be rebuilt once I figure out how the fuck does Fulgora crafting work

Update: I was wondering why I had so many biter attacks.

Turns out, I spawned in a tiny island of green surrounded by desert biomes just outside the initial revealed area. This is gonna be fun.

If I ever do another Space Age run I'm definitely packing power lines and solid fuel for Gleba because despite building my first agricultural tower it still requires power, which requires lots of lines to built, and there's no fuel on Gleba except spoilage which burns very quickly (good thing there's a lot of it).

Also I got this from /v/ and I wanted to share it

Planning for circuit production, I want 4 belts of green, 2 of red and 0.5 of blue. But for this I need 480 steel furnaces smelting iron and 864 smelting copper. This seems a bit excessive for a base 5 hours in, doesn't it? My previous bases didn't have this much demand. Most of the demand for green comes from blue circuits, so should I just make less?

I started a brand new save with all my old blueprints not having played for a while thinking "I'll knock out nauvis real quick and see the expansion content!"

I sorely underestimated base game progression, it took me 12 hours to automate rocket production and 20 hours before I actually automated Nauvis enough to become self sustaining against future biter attacks. My plan was to rush Vulcanus asap so I could ship foundries back to nauvis to fix my metal production.

After reaching Vulcanus it took me 10 more hours before actually defeating the demolisher. As for vulcanus itself, its great fun. Foundries with lava print free resources so for the first time in factorio history you now actually HAVE enough iron to the point where it feels I'm in creative mode.

Vulcanus prints so much iron that I think its legitimately best to just use it to mass produce platforms and ship steel and blue chips elsewhere.

Fulgora is supposed to be the "electronics" planet but on vulcanus iron, copper and sulfur literally grow on trees, if you need more blue chips just copypaste 35 more chip factories, there's no iron bottleneck anymore.

And with no biters to worry about Vulcanus honestly feels like a far better main base location than nauvis. It feelsl ike a reward for reaching it instead of an obstacle to aquillo.

I can't imagine what the other planets can possibly offer to compete with vulcanus and feel like rewards instead of hurdles.
I am. They locked logistic bots behind space science dammit!
This is actually much MUCH better. Space science is easier to produce than red science now and you unlock it after blue science. This is basically gifting us logistics at the same time as contruction bots instead of gating them as an endgame reward.

Damn you guys are fast, I only played Factorio casually years ago and beaten the game once. 20 hours in and I am still on blue science with my spaghetti starter factory. I'm going in blind, and most of that time was trying out different layouts, figuring out ratios, and getting my train tracks set up. I have my real factory to carry me to the rocket almost complete, but I want to make sure my base and outposts are supplied with fuel for the flamethrowers before I turn it on because I will get a huge leap in pollution.

Further update: the biter nests feel a lot tankier now. Between all the time I wasted defending my base, killing the spawners, and having to rebuild chunks of my base whenever an attack came from an unexpected direction, my initial patches are starting to run low. But now I have trains so we should be good for a while.

Desert starts are no joke, kids.

I'm 3 hours in and haven't made blue science yet. There is no way that I need that many circuits right now
"UGH I just cant hear my THOUGHTS over all this NOISE lets turn off all the machinery and go be gay homosexuals" am I summarizing your thoughts correctly sir because thats all I'm hearing?

Fuck you!!!!!!!! I don't even need that many circuits right now!!!!!!

"Right now".

Don't worry, nobody can ever have too many circuits. All you're doing is making it so you'll have to expand your circuit production slightly later than usual.
