Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I kinda don't like how in the newer vidya, you're told what is super effective, not very effective, no effect, etc. "Back in my day", you had to memorize the type matchups.
I mean, I get why they’ve done it - compared to “The Good Ol’ Days of Kanto” (sorry, default to Gen 1 whenever I hear Back in My Day related to Pokemon), there’s almost 10x the amount of Pokémon, before factoring in Regional forms changing some Pokemon’s types entirely. After a certain point, keeping tabs on what every Pokemon’s type matchup is becomes a nightmare.

This is a series that, at its core, is designed for children - sure, it’s mostly played by autistic adults, but kids today are even more retarded than we were. I can get giving them the training wheels for the Base Single Player game.

Much like the EXP Share though, it’s another one of those things where I wish there was a Setting to toggle it off, but I’m not expecting competence from GameFreak.

I played a hackrom that indicated the matchup with the move names in colors (green being effective and red being weak). It was amazing since I still have trouble with fairy types and so on.

It could be considered handholdy but I liked it very much.

I love the modern exp share when the game understands and somwhow scales with it. In my recent Sacred Gold, I felt like it was either natural or there was some scaling going on, because even when I grinded some pokemon for moves, the overall curve was quite near my team level

At least one can do that in Gen 6, which is the last generation I've kept up with.

As for that memorizing thingy, one can usually guess what type a 'mon is by Gen 6.

IIRC, Gen 7 also allowed you to turn EXP Share off. It was in Gen 8 onward that removed being able to turn it off.

I prefer EXP share on. But if you are trying to play the hard way then sucks to be you because Game Freak didn't see fit to let you toggle it anymore. I guess they assumed most people used it to make things go faster. But not everyone wants to play like that. Seems retarded to take it away.

I was watching a video of a zoomer saying that sinnoh is the worst region (fucking lol), and one of the reasons is that he says that Cynthia battle in E4 isn't hard because just ice move garchomp lol.

He was a retarded zoomer and that is alright, but in your opinion, what is the most difficult pokemon battle in official games? (and in romhacks, just for fun)

Didn't play all mainline games, so YMMV, but to me it's Volo in PLA. When I put on the nostalgia goggles, then I guess Red on MT. Silver in GS.

For proper Gamefreak releases I'm between the Volo gauntlet at the end of PLA, for those who haven't played basically just imagine your usual Cynthia battle and the usual difficulty that comes from that followed by a two round fight against a suped up Giratina with phase 2 being its origin forme, or the Cynthia rematch in BDSP.

I haven't played too many rom hacks, usually I just stick to randomizers or catch em all hacks that enable you to get the entire pokedex in just one game.

That's a tough question because some of the most difficult trainers are only hard because of the mechanics of their respective generations.

Case in point, Supertrainer Codel from Coliseum.

On first glance, it just looks like a standard gimmick-y Explosion team. Annoying, yes. But nothing too hard, right?

Wrong.

Due to how Gen 3 double battles work, spread-moves don't have their damage reduced, and if one knocks out a pokemon, its replacement gets sent out during the same turn.

Meaning, he has the potential to take out two-thirds of your entire team on the first turn.

Combine all that with his lead Dusclops being immune to Explosion because it's a Ghost-type, that it knows Imprison, and Protect which locks you out of using Protect yourself, that Explosion also halves your defense in this gen so even if you do survive the first one, the second one is almost certainly gonna take you out, that the only Ghost-types in this game are walled by the rest of his team, and his Dusclops can also just deal them, that his 'mons' items are just scummy af, and that you also can't change the order of your team before you face him, and you have a guy who is an absolute nightmare to go up against.

The point is to remove cheap wins from doing retarded shit that exclusively wins because it catches people off guard. If you know what exactly the opponent has, then who wins comes down to a player's skill. Knowing a pokemon's moveset doesn't make a shitty player any more likely to win any more than having six Arceus on their team would.
No that's absolutely horseshit. Especially with knowing every Pokemon moveset, making prediction pointless, you can absolutely know your Pokemon is immune to another rather than the risk of some niche move.

It's literally the "Final Destination ONLY" meme. You can't have fun doing anything that isn't meta since any trick you have will be exposed.

Anyone currently hunting any shiny pokémon? I'm currently soft resetting for a Torchic in Ruby.
I've been on-off hunting a Beldum in Emerald (via the Battle Video method) for months now and it is the most tortuous hunt i've ever done. Keep in mind that I've gone dry in the Johto Safari Zone for 24k encounters before finding exactly the shiny I wanted, Smeargle, and having it run away after taunting me with near-captures for 6 turns.
This is worse. This is so much worse.

One full fucking minute for a single reset. Mandatory refreshing of your battle video every 50 SRs (which takes at minimum 5 minutes if you're mashing A hoping for your Battle Factory team to bite the dust against an Illumise or Slugma), the entire hunt being a bust if you forget to play that video one single time before refreshing it, and all this at the expense of your shiny possibly getting a shitty nature that makes it significantly less viable for the Battle Frontier (the only real place you'll get to use it at this point in the game). Not to mention how it relies on very specific frame-related fuckery (even for those not trying to RNG manipulate) for that second half of the resetting so that you only waste 1/10 SRs instead of 10/10 for 20 straight resets.

I've only gotten like 600 encounters done over the course of nearly a year now, it is awful. I wish I had an alternative but I cannot take out a mortgage for another GBA and wireless adapter, nor do the same for a link cable and ESPECIALLY not for another copy of Ruby/Sapphire, and I want my Battle Frontier Beldum to be shiny.

Seriously considering just giving up on this autism and doing a regular hunt in Ruby instead, then waiting a few decades for the obscene retro prices to drop and Link Cable-ing it when I can. Then again, shiny hunting autism demands that I keep going until I find it... sigh lol this hobby is so useless.

Dude. Go work at a fast food joint in the evenings for a couple weeks and you'll still do less work than what you're attempting.
