Contrast this with manga, where you can have lesbian or gay genres, and they sell heartily. Scum Villain System is one. Prioritizing good plot and characters always sells out.

I am gonna be honest. Those annuals have to be some of the worst ideas for books I have ever heard. On paper, they don't sound that bad, but on execution is another story. It's like they are a excuse for writers to be lazy and retcon anything regarding a specific character without any semblance of build up, or narrative weight behind that revelation.

For a concept to celebrate their LGBT characters. It sure has become a yearly schlock to see which character can pander that audience that doesn't read from both main publishers.

Even Overwatch became a tired concept after they stopped expanding their characters and threw bones at the gays to hide how much of a shit show the company has been along with it's treatment of the IP.

Because the entertainment industry is overwhelmingly left-leaning, so that for every show that's unfunny and unengaging because it's a progressive lecture, there's examples of shows that are actually good that are made by lefties. (Most of your favorite shows are probably made by liberals and progressives.)

There are comparatively very few shows made by/for people on the right, so for every Mr Birchum or Half-hour News Hour there are no well-made counterexamples.
