It'll come around sooner than you think. This is pretty normal course for intelligence agencies, to put boots on the ground to disrupt. We already know a fair bit about the CIA's activities in Vietnam, because after a point its not really worth keeping secret. Russia realistically won't retaliate at this scale of activities either - Their bread and butter on that sorta shit is cracking vulnerable targets, striking supply lines and making it just that bit easier for the conventional forces to advance and actually take objectives. These glowies are dying for nothing here, the Ukrainians ain't advancing on anything worth a damn for them to soften up. Used to be they were pretty great to lean on for accurate intelligence, but modern tools have diminished the need to march some embed out to get eyes on near targets, and observation platforms just do it better for general and large troop movements.

A nation should only go to war with the following: a solid objective, the means and logistics to achieve said objective and a plan for when hostilities have ended. That is the difference between Desert Storm and Operation Whatever The Hell Bush 43 decided to call the 2003 incursion into Iraq; one was successful, the other was a clusterfuck.

Even the neocon "Well, at least we made Russia bleed and waste resources!" is Pyrrhic; they are now the preeminent military with hardened combat veterans and a retooled MoD as well as experience with new weaponry, tactics and intelligence, especially on NATO. Free opportunity, really. Its not exactly a skillset they can practice or train freely, and staying fresh and sharp is important in the line of work. Losing a few glowies is expected, but they probably consider it worthwhile to retain that capability since the US isn't fucking around in sandboxes right now. They can chalk up a few losses to helping an ally, have an excuse to use and not lose some budget, and keep teams sharp.
