The political will for constitutional amendment dried out decades ago, jus soli is the law of the land in the Americas.
It used to be tempered with outright nationality restrictions (English colonial law) or a caste system (Spanish colonies) but the US is now left interpreting legal documents that had entirely different meanings at their conception that they have locked themselves out of changing.

I think ending birthright with exemptions and pathways for existing immigrants is trumps art of the deal on this. He moved the needle on what Republicans can ask for with regards to immigration reform.
