It seems utterly pathological on YouTube's part.

My old downloader of choice has finally failed me after years of faithful service. It wasn't even an age restricted video this time around, but just some dude talking about notebooks.

I've been hit with this error previously while using Freetube, and now it's popped up elsewhere. It's almost impressive how dedicated they are to putting the screws out on anyone trying to get away from this. Funny thing is, I usually space out my downloads and more or less manage to avoid getting rated. Seeing this pop out in conjunction with the errors happening elsewhere leads me to conclude this is yet another wave of changes YouTube is trying to push. I have confidence it will be rectified in due time, but it's another sign to me that YouTube at some point will probably try something like encrypting the video stream directly to all non signed in users. It wouldn't surprise me at this point if they did.

Pity, seeing as there were some other channels and playlist I have yet to download. But I can at least say I managed to cram two 4tb drives full of the stuff before this happened.

I can only imagine what else they will have in store down the line, but at this point it's a wait and see game.

I thought either every single display I have was fucking up reds in specific spots or I was going colorblind in my fovea. I was going to go insane until I just color-picked the seek bar in photoshop. This lasted for the better part of an hour. Fuck whoever did this. I hate magenta.

I was able to download this using an online site, so it's just your program of choice, king. I suggest you don't actually mention which one failed you and what you're going to use to replace it, just in case bad actors are lurking this thread.
 
YT changed it so any links in an embedded vid go to main YT site, instead of playing in the embed like it used to be.

And of course YT makes it so less and less embedded vids work. More and more "Video unavailable Watch on YouTube" BS.

it's the master of video and audio downloads

Because I'm not some nerd who loves compiling his own .exe's he downloads from github. Seriously, just give me a fucking .exe I can double click and install a program! I tried to install it once and I gave up after the third program I had to download to even get it installed. And don't get me fucking started on having to use a CLUI in the year of our Lord 2024 to install a fucking windows program. Not everyone is some Richard Stallman, FOSS loving nerd.

Download yt-dlp.exe. Open up Command Prompt. Change your directory to the place where yt-dlp.exe is located. Enter "yt-dlp [url]". You have now downloaded a video in less than thirty seconds.

I apologize for the shitposts but yt-dlp should have a GUI. It's been thirty years since I last used a CLUI for more than five minutes.

Seems none of the remaining Invidious instances can play vids, and even browsing channels doesn't work. Also seems Piped instances can browse channels (but no thumbnails).
