I still firmly believe that a game like SS13/14 could have a decent following on Steam, but FUCK ME, are the people who run SS14 retarded. Just make your fucking game, listen to YOUR community, and let others build what they want from that. It's easier than fuckng a hooker and these retards still cannot manage. Hopefully they seek Canadian Healthcare soon

For most of them, it isn't a game to make or play; it's a community to platform their politics, serve as their dating pool, prove they are a decent fucking person, groom children, etc. There's almost no meritocracy left, and on the rare occasion they get a new skilled programmer they inevitably chase them away within a few months unless they join the polycule.

They make all decisions emotionally, and the health of the game itself is never a priority because they don't care about it except as a recruiting tool.

The most prominent one: Replace the social life they'll never have because they're basement dwelling fuckwits who wouldn't know what outside is if they were tossed directly onto grass

SS14 is FOSSware, right? Couldn't someone normal (by autistic standards) just fork it and make it normal and run a normal community/discord/forum/git for it without all the retarded shit like dehubbing or socialist schlock?

This isn't that technically hard, the main hurdles are (1) you are splitting an already very small community (outside of Russia), (2) you'd need a good name for an SS13 sequel besides SS14, (3) the psycho trannies are likely to try and fuck with you for daring to do it. Third is mostly avoidable with basic opsec but it's happened before already.

You forget (4) the inordinate amount of effort needed to undo the terrible decisions made
Like not being able to bump into other people, or the off-grid movement, or everything being based around the (bad) TG codebase. It's months of work that might not even be worth it because of (1) unless you somehow manage to capture most of the community. The prime danger of uncontrolled Open Sores, in the long run, is too many options and support that's spread too thin.

Pixel movement would be fine if the physics and player collision were good. Instead there is no player collision and players and objects constantly get stuck in walls.

Pixel movement is too radical a departure from the original to make it even feel like the same game imo. I think it could be done well as you say, but not in spessmans.
To be fair, CorpMercs have pixel movement and stay faithful to the overall semi-serious goofy roleplay feel of SS13. Then again, it's not a classic SS13 server either.

SS14 is seriously badly designed in every way and does not constitute useful progress of any kind except possibly some sounds and sprites. It would be faster to rebuild from scratch. It would be easier to buy byond and fix it than fix ss14.

Considering the beyond dev had to crowd fund a new office chair I think buying byond would be pretty easy

There is some seriously impressive shit possible with SS14 that, in parts, far elevates it above SS13 while utterly castrating it in others. I think someone posted the following
The singularity shader might be highly disruptive, but it's also incredibly frightening to suddenly see the very world around you bend out of its rigid grid shape. It's the kind of "oh fuck" that the singularity absolutely should be. In fact, I can even admit that off-grid pixel movement kind of makes sense when it comes to non-station movement, as it's all free anyway. Doesn't mean there's any reason it can't switch between grid movement on floors and free-floating in open space other than the whims of the voluntarily self-castrated.
