It depends somewhat where the sheep farmer is. If he's in the lakeland fells of northern England, absolutely not and he also needs a wife who pulls her weight in the house because they have no time for any of that according to James Rebanks (strongly recommend his books). I suspect a Czech sheep farmer would be like this.

But if he's further into the mountains he could have time for a second profession, but only in summer afaik. Sheep farmers in the Caucuses apparently just send their dogs, 5-6, out to do the herding because the slopes they graze on are too steep for people. There is nothing for them to do in summer so they tend to have a lot of children.
