Say it ain't so that Sandypants is Shmorky! (Kind of saw it coming)
Back in the day Sandypants was SUPER popular on FA. If you recall her character sheet, there's a lot of character art from other people on it -- Sandypants got a lot of fanart, so I would not say that Shmorky blew all his funds on commissions.
I even think my girlfriend at the time drew Sandy fanart.
Because Sandy appears to be sweet and feminine she was much more approachable and thus had a wider fanbase. Do you think this is why Shmorky began to deviate to being more feminine? A cute little sheep would be a lot less creepy to interact with than an awkward and balding rabbit in a diaper (Dave Bunny was a tragic character design).
It would be a lot easier to lure people in that way.
