I love the phrasing these people use, where someone expressing disagreement isn't relating a different opinion, they're 'showing their ass' and 'telling on themselves'. I think people like this are probably even more harmful to their own goals than anyone who merely points out that the history of Thanksgiving (and the US overall) with regards to treatment of the native population was actually not great. If you have facts on your side but you're an asshole about it, you're probably not winning many hearts and/or minds.

holy shit these mods absolutely LOVE that Thanksgiving thread. Easy ban bait to boost their egos. The entire thread is bait and anyone who posts there deserves what they get. Fuck the OP of that thread though, they knew EXACTLY what they were doing making that thread. Either they are a right-wing troll who knew how this would be received, in which case, brilliant, or OP is a lib who gets off on seeing this massive wave of bans in their bait thread all because people refuse to treat Thanksviging as an atrocity when all they want to do is spend some time with family and eat good food, which is entirely their right. All people are saying is that being an insufferable douchebag does not persuade people to your point of view. If you feel like you have some kind of moral right/obligation to do it anyway, fine. But don't pretend you're doing it for the sake of the cause and just can't help being so passionate.

I actually used to somewhat care about what happened to the Native Americans. If any race has a serious claim to being screwed over by the white man, it's them. But when you have Freedom Fries levels of retardation like Thankstruthing, people will reflexively turn off. And you may say that have a moral obligation to oppose genocide regardless of your own personal behavior, but that's not what happens in real life.

TD;LR: Nepthian virtue signalling is so mind numbingly irritating that people literally prefer genocide.
