Continuing my scavenging of the
big local flea market, and my
hoarding of Tolkien stuff, I found a box set of the Hobbit+LOTR books in English (I have most of the important Tolkien books, but in Spanish) for pretty cheap, and got it.
It's one of those shitty, small, movie-themed sets.

(Not my pictures, found these online, but it's the same set, and the box in mine is in a little better condition)
I
HATE movie-themed books, but in this case I'll say these aren't bad covers. I've seen far, far worse, like these:

(again, found photo, I don't have these)
Or, Eru forbid, the Rings of Power ones.
But I don't like a bunch of little details. The spines don't align (you can see that the Hobbit looks different), they've got that awful "NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE" and "CONTINUING THE STORY OF THE HOBBIT" text. There's some questionable things inside too, like the last page listing the publisher's social media. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the other side of a page that's part of a map.
Regardless, it was cheap and now I have them in English like I wanted. I still want a really good edition of everything, but it'll do for now.
The real autism comes now, tho:
I've been having this feeling that I want to get into book binding for a while now, and buying these books really kicked it up. I think with some equipment and some practice (on the shittiest, cheapest books I can find on the flea market), I could turn these into a nice custom edition. I've looked around for the equipment (mostly some tools, a paper cutter thing, and a thing to press the book) and the supplies (glue, leather, paper, maybe some gold foil, and metal corner thingies for the corners), some tutorials, I think I could pull it off. The only larger purchase I could need (and it's very optional) would be one of those Cricut things.
And then I could rebind some other books I've got that could look better than they do now.
It's turning into a
thing, isn't it?
