2024 Syrian opposition offensives - The first Syrian rebel offensive against Government forces since March 2020

The Kurdish question actually has a neat little solution courtesy of Turkey itself setting the precedent. Cyprus. Technically Cyprus is one country, one Island. In practice however following a Turkish invasion, the Island is partioned between North and South Cyprus, with North Cyprus a quasi independent sort of country recognized only by Turkey, but also not really. The British Army sits in the middle, and totally not for the exclusive use of a naval base there.

I expect Syria will end up in a similar situation, with a Kurdish "state" in Northeast Syria, but not really, with the USA sitting in the middle, and totally not for the exclusive use of the oil fields. Turkey will just have to deal, which they will so long as Rojava remains totally not a State *wink*. At the end of the Day, Turkey really is in no position to get bogged down in a war with the Kurds. A war that would be astronomically costly in lives and material, never mind the risk of drawing Washington DC's ire. The USA is very good at crafting legal fictions and making its clients read the script in a way that avoids unnecessary complication. Taiwan is a big example of this.

SDF is in a weird spot because both US and Russia support the SDF.
For the Russian side, "supports" is a bit of a strong term.

to tl;dr: Arabs are garbage at war. Turks, a strain of Arab, are slightly less garbage than the average Arab and the Kurds, a sub-species of Turk, are the cleanest end of the Arab-Turkic Warrior Turd by a fair margin in that they are actually competent fighters but usually lack, due to Arab-style tribal politics, any competent commanders above the (effectively) company-level. Because anyone actually good is a threat so they are crab-bucketed (or taken out by Turks/Iranians and previously the Iraqi Baathists).
The last Kurd commander to rise up was Saladin, and his biography is a hilarious tale of Arab/Moeslem backstabbing.
If you want to know the Kurds' secret its simple: They are one of the few Arab subspecies that have a social taboo on cousin marriage.

Anyway:
So Russia's guys are the SAA, but being Arab are utter garbage in battle. Russia realized early on it was better to bribe the SDF to attack the other factions and have an effective truce with the SDF, especially since the SDF's existence made Turkey monstrously butthurt.

How come the Syrian armed forces were unprepared against the latest rebel offensive?

This was normal in Assadist Syria. Do something to loss off the secret police and you'd vanish. Maybe your tortured remains would wind up somewhere, maybe not.

Syria under the Assad family is a living hell.
Rebels haven't just been pushing southward, to the east they've pushed toward the crossroads at Ithriya and captured more equipment from the routing SAA. Back in the Hama area, they've taken yet more SyAAF planes in the city's military airbase and also filmed themselves in Mhardeh (one of the large Christian towns west of Hama along with Suqaylabiyah) - probably not much point to the SAA trying to still hold those towns now, if they even still could, with Homs in danger.

In other news, as part of Al-Jolani's continued charm offensive, he is now reportedly considering choosing Hanna Jallouf - a Catholic bishop who he kidnapped all the way back in 2014 and later released when HTS was still called Al-Nusra - to be his new governor of Aleppo. Hilarious if true, and would be even more unimaginable than HTS successfully blitzing Aleppo itself if it were to actually happen.

The SAA has had rout after rout

I'm pretty sure the rebels now operate more T-90As than the SAA at this point....

Holy shit

Turks, a strain of Arab
This is where my autism steps in to remind you that you are wrong, and that while the Turks, much like the Arabs, were originally a bunch of violent nomad sandniggers before settling down, the Turks originated in Central Asia (possibly somewhere in the Altai region), and are quite distinct from the Arabs genetically, ethnically, culturally, and linguistically, which is why every single Arab group managed to temporarily put their differences aside (with English help, of course) in the interests of kicking the Ottomans out.

The Turks proper are marginally less stupid than the others (although Erdogan is rectifying that situation quite handily) due to being partially Westernized, first by influence of the Byzantines lingering after the conquest, and later on following Kemal Ataturk's forcefully imposed reforms complete with adoption of a Latinized alphabet.

Middle East Spectator reports on Steiner's counterattack, including paratroopers (!). Will he commit sudoku as promised?
Radio silence so far today... we can always hope, Inshallah.

Assad's forces are fleeing Deir Al-Zor, Raqqa, Daraa, etc. Everything is being pulled back to Damascus. Also, @Feline Supremacist, what the hell is an "oomfie"? I don't speak Zigger.
