I've only read the first few chapters of jojolands (last I read is Rohan being introduced). For those up to date with it, how is it looking at the moment? I liked 7 a lot once it got going, but 8 was a chore to read and had to try and get back to it like 3-4 times before I managed to stick and finish.

For now it's still setting things up but currently there are clear goals that the protagonist gang has and there are very clear big villains so it looks like it is getting into high gear

It's pretty fun so far even if the monthly schedule can feel a bit tedious but it feels like a lot happens in each new chapter.

All the fights are pretty good and I do like the cast of characters so far with Jodio being pretty interesting.

I mean they aren't doing anything weird. As of now it's still ambiguous though likely leaning towards them not being a crossdresser (given chapter 1 established they got breast implants, and were bullied for being feminine in middle school yet still choose to be even more feminine afterward) whether they are trans, gender non-conforming, or Mahu (Hawaiian culture thing of a third gender) is unclear from their own words (as Jodio refers to them as brother but Dragona doesn't talk about it).

I personally lean into the gnc and mahu ideas only because Araki did say before he wanted to make a character that transcended the standard definition of gender with Anasui, and Araki has a tendency to revisit old ideas he never got to really doing (or at full potential) before like with Jojolands having Part 8 Rohan.

The closest to weird shit that isn't played for drama (like the pedo cop's sexual assault and the bullying flashback) is just Usagi simping over Dragona like how Anasui did to Jolyne.

But it isn't really that important in the grand scheme of things despite this long response

I really wanna hate part 9 for the whole tranny debacle, but I can't. It doesn't suffer from any of the pacing or perv-factor issues of JJL. It's a fun and bizarre adventure in a way Jojolion wasn't.

Goes to show that people would be more accepting of the woke if they were not crazy and lazy which is more of a condemnation against said woke activists if anything. They just cannot make their ideology look good.

I am interested in seeing how November Rain will develop. It has very limited range as of now, more so than any other protagonist's stand.

There's only 21 chapters so far, and there hasn't been any explicit callback to JJL yet.

Finishing the shitshow that was part 8 (I gave up as well mid-way through the Dr. Wu arc and didn't make any effort to continue for the past 3 years) did make me appreciate part 9 more than I probably would've if I hadn't.

Usagi so far only really came in clutch for one fight, which was against wild cats.

He got his ass beaten by Rohan, was busy testing the lava rock with Dragona while Jodio fought Charmingman, and then was busy suffering from cancer aids during the entirety of the recent fight.

Usagi is mainly utility, and could potentially be evil given the likelihood there may be a traitor among the gang.

So far nothing from Jojolion aside from things in the last two chapters are relevant to Part 9.

I'd say if you want to read Part 9, you can do it though I would recommend reading Jojolion just in case since who knows if a Jojolion character is going to pop up.

Yeah, between the constant delays, confusing villains, and the "mystery" of the four balls having practically nothing to do with the rest of the whack ass plot, I'm glad I stopped after the first Not-Pillar man.
