You probably went to dot net and not dot com.

Use the link at https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/wiki/megathread/games/ so you don't go to phony sites that will shit up your computer.
Will do, I'll check this out.

You posting about The Movies hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia.
Aw, sorry lol. I hope the nostalgia trip's been more warm and fuzzy than cold and melancholy. My condolences about the PS1 situation, especially given the abysmal scalping situation rn.

Unrelated: I found another Internet Archive upload that supposedly has the expansion pack included as well, but I'm going to ask here for a second opinion because i've never heard of Magipack before and I'm not sure of how decent it is.

Certainly looks less sketchy than the first one with the .exe, anyways. Seems to be a repack, like fitgirl's stuff. Anyone know if this is another compromised site?

>The most ergonomic controller ever invented

I use an 360 controller for everything including emulation. If I want a more “authentic” experience for the console Im emulating I’ll buy one of those cheap third-party controllers off Amazon. Its plug and play even on linux.

It’s the best controller ever made.
def one of them
tbh I prefer the Dual Shock 2 for multipurpose stuff
wiimote and classic (snes type) gets a lot of use for me these days

I've never heard of it before. I'll give it a look now.

That's where I found the Italian version, so maybe? I don't know why this one didn't come up. I was looking in the right collections and everything.

Thank you, though. I'll check both suggestions out when I get a bit more free later on and report back afterwards.
archive's search engine is ass
I get much better results with googling "thingiwant" archive.org

finally got my arcade sticks going on my main computer, an early PS1 Hori stick I got use at gamestop labeled as a tekken stick for like five bucks
dang, that must have been about twenty five years ago
now that I think about it that's a hell of a controller, I've been using that on-and-off for a quarter century for 2d fighting and other stuff, it's even older than that, still works great
there was a long stretch where I had a job babysitting a computer so I'd sit out on the porch of the building where I could see it through the window, then I'd play NES games on my modded PSX on a tv smoking black and milds with that stick
edit- one of these guys
1733969821472.png

the other one's a very meh red octane that they gave me a pair of free when I bought a metal ddr pad from them at a con around mid 00s, one of the buttons is busted so I'll have to figure out how to replace it, iirc it's just a normal jamma or whatever the buttons are so that should be pretty easy

Does anybody have a clue as to where I can find The Movies? I've searched around every usual avenue and only found one nonfunctioning Abandonware upload and an Italian version of the game + expansion packs. I don't have the money to buy a copy secondhand and I'd really like to play it.
Additionally, if anyone knows a consistent and reliable source for old computer games specifically, I'd really like to hear it. I'm getting very very sick of MyAbandonware always having some issue or another, especially when using Windows 10, and do not have the money to buy physical secondhand copies of old games.
Myabandonware has it, there's probably a bunch of repacks everywhere, dodigames probably has a repack, there's this guy called gnarlykruto who puts out repacks I think he has it

Anybody knows how to start Windows 3.1 games? I have Hugo House Of Horrors for Windows (with a better UI and cool music, it's more Maniac Mansion this time around) and Admiral Sea Battles, but this boomer can't get them to run, i guess i could use a Windows emulator but is that the only way?

I found a thread about HHH on the ScummVM forum, sadly ScummVM doesn't support it but they do give an alternative of 'installing windows 3.1 through DosBox'.

I've barely used DosBox's features beyond manual resolution changes and preventing aspect ratio stretching. I'm going to hazard a guess that either solution of emulating Win3.1 in DosBox or some VMWare are going to be roughly the same amount of effort.

I'm deep into controller autism and I have pretty much every major iteration of a SEGA Saturn controller, except for whatever pachinko controllers may exist and the keyboard which I think outside of NetLink only works with a couple Japanese Saturn MMOs and Duke Nukem 3D. (Yes, I even have the Twin Stick and the Densha de Go controller, but that last bit wasn't by design.)

Raphnet makes the best controller adapters bar none for your retro needs, you just have to be lucky and get on them while they're in stock. They seem to just make them for USB, Wii and Gamecube, but there are some outliers, like Famicom adapters and at one time they sold parallel port adapters for SNES and PS1, which seems like they've been around for a long time, or a long enough time to sell parallel port adapters. This allows me to do such exotic shit as use a Famicom keyboard over USB (do not do this; if you type as much as I do the keycaps WILL become very worn) or use the Super Famicom NTT Data Controller on my Wii so I can properly play a ColecoVision game.

Odd, Magipack's claiming that this is unauthorized,
1734013365067.png

yet they made an Internet Archive account not too long ago and have all their stuff uploaded there.
1734013394849.png

They even link directly to that account on the site when you click this button.
1734013433556.png

I remain suspicious because the Magipack repack I got was uploaded in 2022, far before the official Internet Archive account, so I'm going to delete that repack just to be safe. And i'd probably be able to get a replacement copy from Magipack themselves easily...

...if they hadn't put every single game together in a single 300+GB .rar.

Without a directory.

EDIT: I am a blind retard who did not notice the Q-U above the .xml and .sqlites. There is a directory, I'm just losing my eyesight 50ish years ahead of schedule. Apologies.

I'm sure that's what the .sqlite file is supposed to be, but the site for downloading sqlite seems to be sending me on a treasure hunt of sorts just to get the program to run and I haven't got the time to learn how to properly set it up. If anyone here is willing to spoonfeed me that'd be greatly appreciated, but for now I think I'll hold out and just check gnarly repacks out instead. Mediafire links are a bit suspect, but I trust FreeMediaHeckYeah and am getting slightly desperate. Thank you, @Soi Woh Jak, for letting me know about them in the first place.

edit 2: holy shit there's Pirates! in here too I might check that out while i'm at it

Gnarly is safe although his installs are a bit annoying with stutters. He's slightly new to the repack scene and he's done a lot of them, like "games I wouldn't expect anybody to repack" kind. I got hit and run, castle crashers, nightmare creatures and couple others from him.

Doesn't seem to have it

I'm more than a bit suspicious.
This took maybe 2 seconds to download when almost every actual game i've downloaded has taken at least 3-5 minutes per .zip/.rar.
The file above the exe appears to be corrupt and this download is from back when this would be considered piracy; the file is from 2005, despite being uploaded to the Archive in 2022. All I know of older piracy is that it used to be a lot more ridden with malware.
Given that old PC games tend to have installers and I've never seen a preinstalled one come without a bunch of folders and other files included, I really don't know if this is legit and I'm not willing to risk my PC to check. Thanks for the link, anyways.
Oh that is fucked beyond shit. edit: oh that looks to be a no-cd crack not the game itself, though it is still very suspect.
A lot of things can be found on Archive.org but don't use their search engine, it blows, use google and add site:archive.org into the search box when looking for something. You should be able to find it.

Old pc-piracy was really legit, it was re-packers and re-distributors that were shady. This can be seen on modern abandonware sites where the original cracked release(that was 100% clean) has been altered or tampered with.

Something something how the tables have turned. Shame things have gone down the crapper, I suppose, but I haven't had any trouble with fitgirl yet and I'm being told Gnarly's alright too, so I'm guessing most repackers nowadays are slightly more trustworthy?

Thanking you twice because his downloader music kicks ass. If by some shitty luck this has malware, it'll have been worth it. :gunt:

So did anyone ever manage to dump the roms from the Genesis Mini 2? There were quite a few unreleased games and new Genesis ports.
On a similar note, isn't there a Sonic 3 movie cartoon? I think it only has some bullshit video clips of the crew or something but yeah, might be neat to dump.

2+ generations ago is retro, that's the rule and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Ain't no way Wii U is retro next year bro lol

I'm sure I read about this, but what's the best solution for forcing pillarboxing? I have an old game I bought on GOG I used to play with my brother but it stretches the screen to 16:9 (which it definitely wasn't designed for, it's from the year 1999-2000). It would be fun to play it with him when he comes over next week.
