Was Bush really bad at all?

He got us involved in another endless war based on a completely flimsy pre-text that turned out to be complete bullshit.

Not to mention the fucking patriot act which was anything but patriotic.

Any president that gets us involved in an endless war is a bad president.

Also, he wasn't just a bad president, he is easily one of the worst president in modern history.

Some people theorised that the gaffes were an act to make him seem more relatable and harmless.

It just made him seem retarded. Plus, anyone that was familiar with his previous work would know it was all an act.

But then I think, these are the same people that try to make Trump out to be evil, so now I'm like, "was Bush really bad or is this just an example of MSM painting a republican a certain way?"
You have to examine this through the lens of Critical Gay Redditor Marvel Capeshit Theory:

- At the time, Bush was Current Thing obstacle to early Gay Race Communism, ie Hitler 1.0
- Once BusHitler was defeated in a bloodless, family-friendly battle to save the heckin' universe, he faded away for a while
- McCain and Romney took their turns at being This Week's Episode Villain (heckin' Hitler 2.0 and 3.0)
- With that plot growing tiresome, Ultra Mega Putler 4.0 was rolled out
- Last Week's Villains learned to Read the Room Sweatie, joined 2020 BLM Zach Snyder AIDS Troon Edition #Resistance
- In 2024, somehow Mega Putler returned...

So George Bush is basically one of the original superheroes, like white Spiderman. Technically a good guy but acknowledges his problematic past, and sidelined himself in favour of a DEI-swapped successor.

Wasn't he confirmed to have dementia a few years ago? That would explain it.

What is with us electing demented presidents? Regan, Bush, Biden (with Biden being the worst by far). Are the American people drawn to demented retards?

At this point I'm convinced that Biden is just sitting there in a diaper drooling, and the evil retards around him are just moving his hand to sign whatever the fuck they think they can get away with before they haul his demented ass out of the White House in Jan. 2025.

All the bad shit Bush did is objectively awful (plenty of people here already have gone into it) but if you're a gun nut his admin was about as good as you could hope for. He let the assault weapons ban expire and never pushed for it to be renewed (more than you can say for Reagan), he passed legislation protecting gun manufacturers from crimes committed with their products which took a huge weight off FFLs and the gun industry, and he appointed Roberts (decent 2A supporter) plus Alito (The best 2A judge we've ever had other than Clarence Thomas), so that's gotta count for something.

I defer to experts in this area, but I do think to some degree he got unlucky with the straws of major world events he drew during his terms.

He was a man of no overly remarkable ability at that level, who nonetheless navigated with varying degrees of success several major crises any other President would have struggled to manage as "successfully" as Bush did. Could you imagine Biden, Clinton or Obama handling 9/11 any better?

The fact he did deeply duplicitous things, like Iraq, has much to answer for. Him and Blair lied and opened a realm of madness in the Middle East that will haunt us for decades. And thats if we in the west are lucky.

He isnt going to be deified like Washington or Lincoln, but there were far worse men to have at the helm at times there.

its natural to say no because of how harsh the media was to him, but the best thing he did was not stick around in the discourse like barry or billy. But overally his views on every issue was dogshit and he made bad decisions overall. he was exactly like jeb, and we all know how bad he is

This guy was so thoroughly retarded, such an obvious puppet, such a completely detestable shill, that the backlash to his tenure was the formation of every over-reactionary Millennial shitlib. Said Millennials went on to have kids and/or groom kids, brainwash them about microaggressions and safe spaces and shit, and now we're forever stuck in this hellscape in which every baby born is bound to be dumber and softer than the last.

Actually, YES. All you had to do was not invade Iraq. Staying in Afghanistan more than a few weeks was also unnecessary.

The alternative to be imagining is Al Gore, since he came within a few hundred voots of becoming President.

There's a common sentiment about Bush being a kindhearted simpleton and while he was certainly charming, the man was more cunning and cutthroat than people seem to realize. That image is a facade in large part and it was built through media savvy that's actually about on par with Trump and his decisions regarding Iraq, Guantanamo Bay and the spying apparatus suggests a tendency towards callousness that gets overlooked. His administration was a preamble to Obamas for the most part and nobody is coming out with fuzzy memories of him.

Below is a list of key events from the Shrub Presidency mostly limited to stuff he actually had a hand in. As you can see he has a predictable generally unspectacular conservative social program. Mostly keeping the status quo or moving things slightly right that mostly got reversed later on. Its kind of amazing how people dream up shit like the Handmaid's Tale and Vagina Monologues from such a pedestrian Presidency. Some of the more lasting legacies on domestically are an apolitical increase in the authoritarian apparatus and the conservative Alito and swing conservative Roberts

On the Foreign side. Things are of course dominated by Sept 11th and Iraq and Afghanistan

Bush's unpopularity outside of the left comes from a confluence of events coming to a head late in his Presidency. The occupation (mostly in iraq) dragging on, the 2008 crisis, the loss of the Senate in 2006, and his appearance of turning left in support of open borders and amnesty. The last one really pissed the right off at the time, and if you are cynical gave them the excuse they needed to break from him. Him making nice nice with the Dems toward the end and after his Presidency didn't help either. The right would drift and then accelerate toward a rejection of neoconservatism and foreign interventionism with Trump and the left in response would become more hawkish.

Bush II and the rest of his administration pretty much destroyed the 4th Amendment as well as due process, got us involved in five endless wars in the Middle East and elsewhere for no benefit, killing and maiming countless soldiers as well as civilians, and Obama, Trump, as well as Biden have used Bush's AUMF do further these stupid military adventures abroad. Dubya also gave us the "No Fly List" for airports that cannot be legally challenged in any way, shape, or form once you are on it and you can be put on the list just because some official feels like it.

All of the W. Bush era spying and surveillance programs are still in place despite being blatantly unconstitutional as all of our presidents since then have taken full advantage of them.

It did not help that the Democrats basically rolled over and gave the Bush II administration everything it wanted during his eight years in office as well, and now the Democrats have been trying to suck Dubya's dick since then trying to paint him as some kindly old man, and Harris was trying to cozy up with the Cheneys and Dick Cheney is one of the most vile people we have ever had in our political system.

So, for all of the bitching about the military-industrial complex, and the surveillance state, you can thank Dubya and pals for that as he was the one that flung the doors wide open on all of this, with everybody else riding in on his authoritarian coattails. Obama, Trump, and Biden are mere amateurs compared to what his administration pulled.

Not a big fan of bush. I'm not saying you have to shave it bald, but at least trim it up a little. I don't want to hear "Welcome to the Jungle" in my head when a chick takes her pants off.

Oh, wrong bush. Bush was okay. Had a few good songs in the 90s.

I love it how you guys think he was actually the commander in chief during his presidency.

I could never confirm this story as 100% accurate but, it checks out knowing how dumb Bush was and how much I knew about Cheny.

Cessna airplane flies over white house restricted airspace, SS is informed and grabs VP Cheny, "Mr President, er um I mean Mr. Vice President, we have a situation we need you in the white house bunker right now" 10 mins later George Bush is walking around the whitehouse asking "Hey where'd all the security guys go to"?

Cheny and Rumsfeld ran the whitehouse, George Bush was just the likeable idiot people voted for.

George W. Bush is objectively the worst post-World War II president we’ve ever had. Anyone who tries to rehabilitate him is a retard. The reasons have been mentioned here many times already. Many of our current problems are rooted in shit his policies are responsible for.
So, yeah, thank you Dubya for shilling for migrants
Dubya was the first loud n’ proud open borders president. His “faith-based initiatives” were mostly religious charities who imported shitskins by the millions. Biden’s immigration policies were the exact same as Bush’s immigration policies.
