Bored and lurking r/fuckcars and remembering why I stopped studying urban planning. These types are so fucking annoying and
this really is just all they do. It takes an extraordinary amount of privilege to sit down and say that the #1 problem with cities like NYC isn't crime, drugs, or even homelessness (a shockingly low number of the transit-soy types give two fucks about housing, surprisingly because they'dve grown up on Staten Island or some other ivory island) but the greatest problem with NYC is actually that the metro isn't unsafe, but that it's not popular enough! And then they spend their careers retweeting whatever the NYC city office puts out as fact
It's just so narrow minded of a field that it's not surprising planning in the US has fallen off a hill. Other countries get places because they focus on actually developing and moving forward instead of bickering about bike lanes all day. Suggest that the problems might at all be anything social and they'll have your head on a spike. They're so deep into neoliberalism it's unbelievable
I'm pretty sure the NL and other places just have smaller fire brigade vehicles, but more stations dispersed since they're in cities
