Reviews of the Dodge Charger Daytona EV are coming out, and the dimensions of the car are EXTREMELY bloated. The 206 in. length makes it almost as long as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the 6000 lb curb weight makes it 1k heavier than the ICE S-Class, and is even heavier than the 3-row Kia EV9, and the infamously obese VinFast VF8.

The interior also has tacked on screens with capacitive touch HVAC controls:

And the $62k base price tag (and $80k for the Scat Pack) means that Dodge owners won't be able to even qualify to finance one of these.

Xiaomi revealed their new EV SUV, the YU7, which in addition to the rip-off McLaren headlights, also ripsoff the Ferrari Purosangue's look:

It may be petty, but one of the main reasons I dislike the Model 3 (retina-searing headlights and ipad dash aside) is they all look the same. Same bodystyle, same wheels, same 6 or so boring colours, same bodykit. Even the performance version looks virtually identical to the base one.
that was part of its charm. tesla said "yeah fuck that silly bullshit" about dealerships and different model years and new body styles that somehow justify increasing the cost, people forget that to redditors and other non-car guys that was all useless annoyances.

They're not wrong. Dealerships are fucking awful to deal with, they'll try to upcharge you for all sorts of nonsense, and nobody cares if your front bumper has two strokes or three, signifying whether it was made in April 2023 or June.
When I buy a car I just want to sit in it, take a little drive, then come back and sign for a model with xyz, then have that delivered. I don't want to have to go back and forth on insisting that I don't need heated cup holders for the rear seats, it's a coupé, nobody is ever going to sit in the back anyway.

so true, like every car model has like 9 different options of levels and then you get to customize in those levels the trim or color or wheel style and then they get into body updates and try to upsell you with insane accessories as if you can't buy a car adapter for a cell phone charger anywhere else. Its an all day affair and the guy you're talking to basically is doing his best to sweet talk you like he's going to fuck your asshole later because he gets $3k from selling the car to you. even better is after going through the trouble of choosing all the bullshit options they they say "oh it will be here in 2 months or you can have this one at the dealership same price but leave today" and don't get me started on the warranties, "come back every 4 months so we can find something wrong with your car"

Also all the stuff like buying online or even being able to see the available options wasn't even heard of until Tesla pioneered the concept a dozen years ago. they really did fuck with people

Chinese auto brand Jiyue, which is owned by Geely and Baidu, has disbanded and collapsed. This comes after another Chinese EV company Human Horizons, which owns the HiPhi brand, went bankrupt earlier this year. IIRC, Chinese auto brand WM Motor also went bankrupt recently. So the dominoes are indeed falling for all of the Chinese companies that bought into the EV grift.

And considering Jiyue made cars that have the usual GIANT ASS SCREENS and very minimal physical controls, it won't be a loss:

EVs don't have to be gay, do they? They don't need touch screens and shitty computer controlled alterntives to mechanisms that work 100 times better, right? They can be a regular car with an electric motor; they don't have to be gay...
They don't have to, but nearly all of them are.
Thanks, Tesla. I fully blame Tesla for making that shit fashionable.

It also has issues with randomly slowing for no reason and the parking "sensors" don't work in the dark, because they're just cameras.
Yeah, it turns out that the reason other AV companies use a battery of sensors is because you need that robustness, not because they're too stupid to realize you can do it all with just cameras.

I wish America wasn't on the verge of banning gasoline-powered sedans and mandating only crossovers & SUVs. So fucking stupid.

They need to be gay because without the gayness, it's just a heavy, expensive car with poor range and a tendency to burst into unquenchable fire in an accident.

Elon Musk Reportedly Told TSMC’s Chairman In A Recent Secret Meeting That Optimus Robots – Not Cars – Are Tesla’s Future

I've long seen their electric car business as doomed to get swept aside by China and Ford, Chevy, et al. So this might be a legitimately good move. If it's not just a bullshit rumor from the Taiwanese press.
If they could make a domestic robot that actually works it would indeed sell incredibly well. I don’t really mind cooking, but if I could tell my robot to make me an omelette or whatever, I would. Same for countless other mundane household chores. Even just taking the dishes away to the washer would be worth however much the thing costs.

Basically, it's an untapped market with huge pent up demand based on sci-fi expectations. There is no household general purpose robot worth a damn, there are Roombas and toys. Making it humanoid is hard but allows it to use spaces and tools designed for humans (no wheelchairs or R2-D2s admitted).

The auto business is turbulent, full of established competition, and what Tesla has to offer are overpriced luxury cars with quality issues. Sales could end up plummeting not only due to the merits of the product, but domestic politics and geopolitics.

Tesla might even have a future as a battery company if they ditched cars, simply from reaching a certain scale with Gigafactories. I don't know the details of their arrangements with Panasonic though.

Makes sense why they might turn to overpriced luxury robots with quality and safety issues instead.

Pana owns the IP. Tesla becoming a low-margin commodity company doesn't make any sense at all and would destroy the company's stock valuation. The issue Tesla has is its share price is built on expectations of it revolutionizing and taking over multiple industries, which it simply has not done. Just some numbers to put it in perspective:

TeslaAll autoTesla share
Market Cap$1.5T$3.0T50%
Revenue$100b$4400b2%
PE Ratio130Between 3 and 10About 15x industry norm
BEV unit sales1.5m10m15%

The problem is that Tesla needs to somehow 10x its revenue to come even close to justifying its stock price. Its share price has utterly defied what I expected such a massively hyped stock to sustain, proving that I just do not understand the world all that well. I had expected that, once it became clear that Tesla was never going to deliver on its promise of becoming to the 2020s what GM was to the 1960s, its stock would crash...but here we are, hitting new highs.

Hell, the low-key announcement that Dojo not only would not be displacing NVIDIA, but would not even be entering production, didn't even cancel out the spike its original announcement caused. FOMO? HODL? Who the fuck knows? What flummoxes Tesla haters like ourselves is our fairly good track record of predicting Tesla's technical failures (I said from the beginning Dojo made no sense and Tesla would just buy GPUs, which is exactly what happened), yet the stock market just doesn't give a rat's ass.
