This was tough. Like, I literally had trouble coming up with something that could match Bob's insane delusional devotion to a brand. The best I can come up with is Microsoft buying Rare, since their SNES and N64 games were a big part of my childhood, and even then I got over it pretty quickly.
I'm still convinced he hated it because it wasn't live action, it had a filthy believer playing Mario, and it wasn't a sequel to the 90s one. I said this a long time ago, but his most hated movies tend to be the second in a rebooted franchise. Amazing Spider-Man 2, Batman V Superman, and also Super Mario World 2. It's why I cannot wait for Mario 2 to come out. It'll be everything that pisses him off and he'll have to sit there, smile, and take it. Or he'll snap and let out his vitriol for it.

I don't think Bob truly hates it only because to him, Mario is a sacred religion that he must love every product of. Unless it overtly goes against what he believes (i.e. Mario wearing a Trump hat or something), he will lap up anything Miyamoto attaches himself too.
I will say this for Robert: he actually has some defenders. Granted, they have room-temperature IQ and personalities as toxic as Bob's, but unlike Patrick Tomlinson, he doesn't actively drive his ballwashers away.
