Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Today as I'm off from work, I'm catching up with ALL my manga that I basically forgot about for the past year. Some literally haven't been read in a year lol. Highlights:

Kaiju no 8: found out kinda what the monsters actually are, got a lot of lore

Spy X Family: actually progressed the plot

Heavens Feel manga: barely fucking moved since last year but it was good still

Goblin Slayer Year One: I'm in the middle of it, we're hanging out with some elf lady right now, about to fight a wizard, nice change of pace

Dandadan: consistently good

Fate type/redline: barely moved chapter wise but really progressed the story, good fights.

Drama Queen: read it 10 minutes ago. Think it's OK.

Overall, I think my manga this year has been decent.

>Dandadan ended its first season and second season was announced recently
>2.5d Seduction ended its first season and second season was announced recently
>about to watch The Café Terrace and it’s Goddesses for Christmas along with other anime that needs to be finished

Watching anime this year has been fun, but I think 2025 will be even more fun.

Either way, Merry (early) Christmas!

I'm glad "As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World" (fuck these titles, dude) is getting a 3rd season. The second season ended sirt of abruptly, didn't feel very climactic.

The person doing all the legwork on the subject is the vtuber Kirsche Verstahl, who has gone through the videos and websites BRIDGE participants have put out talking about what they are doing. She has a playlist of edited-down videos (since the original format they were presented in was as part of hours-long livestreams) here: https://www.youtube.com/@KirscheVerstahl/playlists, although I don't think they're in order. Despite what you might think of the source, she has receipts for everything.
I'll check it out, thanks.

I'd say that's why it works, because in the story the only people who really agree with his decision are women and children, his pacifism is constantly portrayed as a crippling handicap and most of the plot only happens because he's a big fucking pussy and tried to cold turkey stop killing and not just only kill bad guys as some vigilante or something. You can think he's cool or whatever for trying to uphold this no-killing rule but the plot makes out to be some Sisyphean retard; the appeal of the series is watching him try to do shit in the worst way possible instead of just killing human traffickers and drug dealers and mad dog assassins with a sword.
That's a fair point, actually.

It has been 14 years...
Is that actual anime, or a Powerpuff Girls/Samurai Jack kinda thing?

Basically Panty and Stocking is Gainax's (specifically the team that left to make Trigger) attempt to make a more adult-oriented comedy inspired by American animation, most specifically Drawn Together. It's a magical girl anime, but the girls are angels physically and mentally portrayed as 20 something whores who swear like sailors. They're on Earth killing ghosts to earn their way back to heaven because they got kicked out for being whores. There's a sub plot where Panty is trying to fuck 1000 dudes. Did I mention they're whores?

It's actually pretty funny even by western standards.

Yesterday I was reminded that the Code Geass has a conclusion film released 5 years ago, and finally went and watched it.

It was surprisingly good. I forgot who 80% of the cast was but it still had some nice battles, fun character moments and an actual good ending. I missed Kallen T&A, I feel like I haven't seen a good plug suit in ages.

I like how they made the villain a match for Lelouch. It's pretty fucking horrific what he did to her in return.

I wish Sunrise return to the golden age of shlocky mecha. Feels like everything today is either literally gay, safe or self aware. Which did it in it's own way.
The only kind of recent mecha that did plug suits that I can think of was darling in the franxx.

I just wanna vent about the ending of Atri: My Dearest Moments. What a terrible fucking ending, it could hardly have been worse. Whoever wrote that should be curb stomped. Instead of finding a way save Atri, Natsuki just uploads his consciousness to the fucking Matrix with her after 70 years (I think maybe forever in the anime, but for seemingly only one day in the game from what it sounds like).

Atri sure was a good character though, usually anime girls are annoying as hell, especially when they try to make them cutesy, but they did a great job of making her adorable. Her stupid little whistle and complaining about people violating the Robot Disparagement Act or whatever every time she's called a piece of junk, and always calling herself "high-performance". It was endearing.

Its basically South Park but anime.
Those are the last answers I expected lol. Sure sounds different at least.

Spoiler: sperging about Atri: My Dearest Moments
Makes me glad I didn't continue with the game. It didn't really grab me and as much as FrontWing are good in making female characters, I really can't stand their MCs - "Oh I'm such a loner conflicted soul! Also I have multiple best friends and seemingly always know the best response in a conversation". Either do a self insert or a gigachad, but pick one.

Dubbed by Monica and Jamie. One of the many reasons I never believed their ""rape/assault"" stories about Vic. You don't happily play whores routinely while also feeling "traumatized and shaken" by supposedly getting raped in the past. I don't buy it.
Going by a literal reading of the subs they over-embellished it but I'm pretty sure it takes very little literal whorishness in Japanese to come off as a huge fucking whore so I don't even know that it was a terrible translation. But also I don't care about English dubs and hated the anime VA community long before Vic just for being bad at their jobs so it's whatever.

Isn't there like a new fate movie coming out or something like that?
you're thinking of strange fake
unless you're a power level fag (it's absurd to me these exist for fucking Fate of all things, where the strongest is shown frequently taken out or humiliated, sometimes sexually if you're a certain blonde, by the weakest) you best steer clear because the story is ass and the author was made by the Fate equivalent of that one DM/writer for a universe that feels the need to add every little fucking scrap from the most obscure corners of the setting.

Do you know who Kouma Kishima is? If you don't, now you do. And if you do, you already understand.

I still think it's worth watching (maybe not playing, especially if it's long like a lot of VNs tend to be, and I bet the static images don't convey Atri's energy and personality as well as voiced animation), it's just got a very unsatisfying ending.

I definitely don't think the MC has a trace of gigachad in body, he's about as dour and about as weak as men come. That's actually another thing I didn't like, he doesn't man up, ever. He does have a few shining moments but they're few and fleeting. I appreciate what they were going for, and I like that he's disabled and that it plays into the story very well, but still.

I'll have to check out what else FrontWing has made, because it left a mostly good impression. Hopefully the next thing I check out has a stronger male protagonist, and if they can even match half the charm of Atri then the female will be fine too.

I never believed them because they're lying liberal whores and Vic is a cool man of God who wouldn't do that, and the only video evidence in existence of inappropriate touching and flirting was actually of one of those sluts doing that to him during a Q&A or whatever. Maybe he turned her down and she decided to ruin him, that'd be more believable :story:

Inconsistent power scaling is just trash writing though, everybody should be a power level fag. Imagine you're watching LotR and a Frodo decides "actually, I'm just soloing Sauron" and he one-shotted the big fucking eye. That'd be retarded.

More being anti social but still being good in conversation and having close friends.

I recommend Grisaia the VN, sadly good adaptions are incredibly rare.

Fate flip flops between different kinds of power scaling:
* My Kung Fu is better than yours.
* Rule lawyering - "I win because my sword has anti god abilities".
* Realistic - A bullet to the head is still a bullet to the head.

It's not necessarily bad but can feel arbitrary.

It is also one of the few anime where I think the dub exceeds the original. Mainly because the offensive crassness of humor of Panty and Stocking feels very American especially since there are a lot of references to western media and celebrities.

Based on a panel I went to that had the creators there, (spoiling in case these references make it to the show due to the creators changing their mind) they are going to reference Elon Musk and Adam Sandler, with the former being a parody of Iron Man called "Iron Mask" who runs "Space Sex" with Dick Rockets.

I hope I don't come off as contrarian, but he only became like that due to a tragic accident, and he really only had one friend at first, a childhood friend. As he opened up he got more friends and became less depressed, and his old friend just came out and point blank said that ("he's becoming like his old self again!").

The title is familiar, I've certainly heard of it. I'll check that out first then.

As for adaptations, I haven't watched a lot of them, but they tend to be hit and miss for sure. I didn't play Atri so I can't compare, but I did watch Danganronpa, and the game is much better but it's serviceable.

Sounds kinda inconsistent. It's something a ton of media struggles with, Yu Yu Hakusho is probably one of the best in this regard.
