It's on his channel. It's called "The Big Watch" or Jack Frost 1997 The Big Watch (PILOT), and apparently it's him doing reaction commentary years after that became a thing. Because that's how he works, see. He can only do something a decade after it's a thing, like when he tried to rip off Retsupurae by commenting over video game playthroughs, but insisted it was a brand new thing he had just come up with. Or his book, which was a text Let's Play like Something Awful used to do, and he was convinced was his own invention.

I haven't watched it yet, will probably do it tomorrow or later when I have more time.

Look at the dates, Moviebob has spent a straight week seething about Sonic 3 & Shadow. He can say he's "not mad, just confused", but a confused man does not embed himself in Sonic movie discourse and not learn anything. Nobody has given him death threats, just called him a moron, yet he is this obsessed with this idea that these movies have found an audience despite "not deserving" one and his audience are seemingly also in that weird belief. Like all of this is irrelevant to the actual quality of the movies or games, that the fanbase is bad, because most fanbases are bad. Dont raise a kid on an iPad and they dont have to interact with the fandom. Problem solved. Like the question of "why does barely passable games and average films become franchises" or "how come these movies succeeded when there's more good games than bad" is pretty silly given Nintendo's biggest franchise is Pokemon! Of which the same criticisms can apply: average to mediocre glut of movies, awful fanbase who want to fuck the furry animals and games which are for the most part utter dogshit, but to say no one cares about Pokemon is ridiculous because kids lap that shit up

Like a comment brought this up in his review, but he is obsessed with this idea that Shadow is this universally despised concept that no one latched onto when he was literally brought back due to being catnip for the target audience of Sonic fans. 8 year olds have loved Shadow ever since 2001 because he makes them feel grown up. It's the same reason they like Venom, Rocket Raccoon or Stitch: cute source material injected with violent aesthetic just works for kids. You were like 20 when SA2 came out, plus you were a Nintendo fan, you were in a bubble. The Starkiller comparison is a very telling one, because Starkiller is conceptually no different than Rey or Ahsoka, he's just arbitrarily considered an "embarrassing" relic of the old EU by Disney Wars fans because he's "OP"... which is entirely because he's a video game character. Disney SW Fans have this weird tendency too of being okay with dumb EU bullshit as soon as it migrates outwards, like that meme of HelloGreedo getting angry at Boba Fett coming back when it was an EU thing and then soyjaking when it happened in Disney SW

And I think what annoys me about Moviebob's fanbase is they have his complete lack of understanding of fiction: Bob is a very Fandom type of wannabe culture critic, he always analyzes things on a trope level. As evidenced by him and his fans being confused as to how Shadow and Knuckles are different, because if you break down everything into tropes of course you would be confused: because on a trope level they are the same, you just have to disregard completely different motivations, personalities and context of their use in the film in order to analyze them on basically the film equivalent of an atom. It's this romanticization of shit that ain't that deep, Shadow is taken more seriously than Knuckles because they're different characters in a different film. This idea that any movie needs to automatically treat its characters the same if they can be reduced to both being a specific similar experience is just strange imo

I mean hell they misremember that 5/10 PS2 game as being SA2, which was the highest rated Sonic game ever and yet is somehow The Bad One

It is always entertaining to watch Bob impotently rage at Sonic's theatrical success, which speaks to his utter irrelevance as a critic. Factor in his inability to look beyond raw superficial and it is little wonder that he doesn't understand Knuckles and Shadow. Yes, both are rivals and foils to Sonic, but for different reasons. Sonic has long been established as a free spirit driven by his own sense of justice and armed with a caustic wit. Knuckles is bound by duty to protect the Master Emerald so he cannot travel as freely as Sonic. Add in the fact that he hails from a now-extinct warrior race and had no contact with other beings until Sonic 3 & Knuckles, he can also be naive and more literal-minded. Meanwhile, Shadow is more-pathos driven due to the ARK disaster and his struggle is balancing his own darkness with honoring the wishes of his only friend, Maria Robotnik. As such, Sonic's flippant attitude grates on him though the two are capable working toward a common goal.

Honestly, it's not that hard to parse out if one engages with the source material in good faith. Bob will never do that because he doesn't want to admit that the Sonic franchise is more story and character-driven, which is why it's had several beloved animated series and long-running comics under Archie and IDW. Similarly, Sega is better at the social media game with entertaining Twitter takeovers and Tails' Channel. That's not to say Mario is bad. Far from it. Both franchises thrive under different paradigms. Bob is stuck in an archaic "Nintendo vs. Sega" mindset that fizzled out after the Dreamcast died.
