I do. She rejected altruism as a moral imperative, and not just as a state mandate (though she certainly rejected the latter as well). A moral imperative is separate from a law, and one can exist without the other.

Rejection of altruism as a moral imperative is simply inconsistent with Christianity. Especially as, in the case of the U.S., Christianity is practiced under a system of government in which a wall of separation exists between church and state, and the church can't imprison you for defying them. There's your private altruism.

Had Rand only been been bitching about a welfare state, I wouldn't be pressing this point.

My favorite contradiction of hers is that Israel is objectively better than Palestine because it has the mental power to design, build and operate better technologies, but we as Americans should contribute to Israel (her one exception to the "no charity" rule) because they need our weapons of war to win the fight.
