It's a hostile conference. Married couples under law are One Person, legally, in matters where both are implicated. Not saying you're wrong, but there are other possibilities:
- He was telling the truth when he said (IIRC) that he repurposed some of his equipment for karaoke, then was too lazy to put it back.
- Something stopped working and he can't be bothered to fix it.
- One of the unstable adults in the house smashed up the studio in a fit of rage.

Current faceless streaming is obviously because he doesn't want to create video evidence of being sloshed shortly before the plea gets finalized.
