Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

I know it's easy to think that "I don't live in a fire zone, flood zone, etc" but this shit caused by incompetence can and has had a trickle down to everyone. If you ever want to own a home, insurance companies are increasingly making it harder no matter your market. Oh, there was a bunch of roof claims in this portion of the country a few years ago for storms. So now we're going to fuck with everyone everywhere. That house you're in the middle of closing on? Yeah it's got a 10 year old roof and our low res satellite image shows it's a little dirty. We won't cover you unless you get a new roof. Who cares if inspectors say it's got years left on it.

This is happening everywhere now. Trickle down!

I hope David lynch gets out safe, dudes 78, is house bound with emphysema and lives on mulholland dr. in the Hollywood hills. We could really use a weather report right now.

What a sobering thought. Say what you will about the dystopia we live in now and Israel's wars and whatever, but I feel like 9/11 was something of a rare period of solidarity and patriotism for the United States in the wake of a tragedy. It didn't last, but it helped to shape the character of the country in the 2000s and 2010s, for better or worse. I wonder if this firestorm will end up being so bad that it becomes another culturally and societally transformative moment for America.

It would be absolutely surreal if we were witnessing an actual attack tonight. Maybe they'll blame the drones - that's what they were making such a big deal about to the public last month after all. Also markets dipped heavily for no reason whatsoever yesterday, maybe something is afoot.

But I think the more likely reason is just California being so far up its own ass with DEI, altruism, and woke that they completely dropped the ball. It's not like this is the first time there has been a massive Cali fire that was poorly mismanaged and prepared for.

This is why you live off grid. I may die to something easily preventable in a normal society, but at least I'll be to blame for it.

Apparently they just issued a water boil warning for LA because water pressure is so low residential water is about to run out

Which will, of course, cause a massive spike in water demand, which caused it to immediately run out

Forget fighting the fires they don't even have drinking water now

If you're in the area, get the fuck out. Just pick a region and drive. My kinfolk are in Idaho and we're fucking tired of Californian faggots but we'll be happy to let you crash in a motel or something for a few weeks. Just get the fuck out of California, now.

She was almost raped by a junkie outside of her house, and her leftist buddies got furious at her for talking about it because it "stigmatizes the unhoused and oppressed." Junkie might have been brown, too, which would have added "it's racist to tell them no, just lay back and think of all the diversity he'd be bringing to your womb." No, literally, they were mad at her for talking about being a sexual assault victim because it might have inconvenienced the rapist or the theoretical rapists that existed in her friend's minds.

It shattered the conditioning and she's slowly breaking out of the epistemic closure she's been in for decades.
It was a white guy, but they still accused her of being racist.
:story:
Since then she's started reading the farms, or at least the rackets thread. Hi if you're here as well, Ana.

If the wind is good enough it can just jump the break. Plus, I don't think LAFD has the equipment to do a large enough fire break (maybe use I-10 and I-405 as part of it, but that entrails giving up Santa Monica). Maybe if they got the state + feds they'd be able to do it.
a break always makes it easier. My father and i had to cut one around his home once. We still had to fight the fire but in stead of fighting a losing battle against a wall of fire we were fighting isolated ember-started fires on bushes and leaves instead. of course we did not have to deal with the kind of wind they have in LA.

I know all of you are screaming 'BASEDDDD! B-BASED ANA!' but she's saying she's anti-Democrat in a leftie commie way, not in a 'Republicans are the better choice' way.
Exactly. She's still a leftist. Just a little more to the center now. Not a centrist by any means. She's just willing to call a spade a spade.

They're gonna have to start bulldozing whole neighborhoods to make a firebreak to maybe stop the fire. if it reaches the city proper its going to be a literal firestorm.
That would have been what they should have done, yes. But that would have required they pick some 10-30 million dollar mansions -- dozens if not hundreds of them -- and bulldozed them. The DEI fire chief would never allow that, the mayor would never sign off on it, Newscum would never allow it, and the private security forces those mansions have would have shot them if they tried.

Instead, they let it burn and left it all to random chance. Because it's the dumbest fucking thing possible to do, but it also removes all responsibility from the people involved.

Copycat arson seemingly confirmed by the locals.

Yeah but that ends up as the gov pays them to live there for months... years.
t. Was in Houston after Katrina

We're reached a country where a democrat saying "no, they have a point" is a major fucking win. Even admitting a problem exists is a major step toward solving it. We don't necessarily need to agree HOW to solve if, but at least we can begin discussin.

Here's a question for any insurance goons ITT; I have my own homeowners insurance with a provider that also does business in California. They're one of the biggest providers in the nation but is there any risk of them going bankrupt after this and rendering my own homeowners insurance void? There are fires here too every now and then but we're not incompetent like Cali is.
not an insurer but we called our broker earlier about shopping around for our commercial policy here in the midwest (it's gotten to be the largest expense for my building) and he warned me not to get caught doing some comparison shopping because every big insurer is itching to drop people the minute they can.

of course, this could be our broker talking shit to get us to not move policies but the impression i get is insurance is having a hard time making money when 1 in 100 or 1 in 500 events are now 1 in 20 or 1 in 50.
