I don't blame him for that, really. I knew a guy who was in AA and he was one of the most obnoxious motherfuckers I've ever met. Even though I had been sober for over a year at the time, when I told him I had quit drinking he immediately activated his cultish behavior and started telling me how I couldn't do it on my own, I was going to fail, etc etc then he gave my fucking phone number to a bunch of AA people and I started getting calls about it. I was fucking pissed.

I don't think he is actually going to rehab and if he does it will only be for a day or two after which he will quit. If Ralph is to be believe he started doing drugs at 12 years old. He is a lifelong addict with zero coping mechanisms and zero to live for. He will never ever become sober. Most addicts never do and the very rare ones who manage it only do because they have things to lose still like wife and children. Ralph didn't get clean for his wife and child and he's not gonna get clean for Juju.

He doesn't seem to understand that you can't really just pop off on people in a hospital and expect them to be okay with it. Watch him get thrown out in 3 days and claim it as a victory "I was so clean they said I didn't need the whole 30 days"

I would expect that rehab centers are used to addicts yelling, being angry, and being general assholes. That is part of why they are not cheap in the US. Who wants to put up with that abuse.

You would think the psychologists would have approaches to get the patients to begin behaving more appropriately while in their care.

ralph's biggest problem is he has zero healthy ways to handle stress. the moment he's stressed out he becomes a violent binge monster.

In theory a good rehab center should teach him positive stress coping skills while he is there.

I think the number is a 30% chance rehab might work. His odds are improved since he is actively seeking it.

His odds are lower because:
* He has been a wet brained alcoholic/junkie for decades.
* When he gets out he doesn't have a good support structure of friends and family in Mexico that don't abuse substances. You can be sure those prostitutes are not drug and alcohol free. This is a situation where a church might be his best hope to surround himself with people better than he is.

Man I remember when he first added the, "I'm going to really do it this time guys for real" to his BPD cycle and I could only encourage it. Now it's kind of hard to care, think that's just the life of an addict though.

I will say this, he's right about Dax and everyone here has said that about him for years now. For court-ordered rehab, they do. They can tell the judge and then the patient has to deal with all the ramifications of that which could include jailtime and I imagine that would make most people act right (but not always, as Bossman illustrates).

For everyone else in any kind of voluntary therapy, rehab or otherwise, the only real mechanism to force change is the patient's own desire to do better. He's not getting locked in an insane asylum (though perhaps one day we will be so blessed to witness that). So involuntary emergency medication to chemically coerce behavior is not on the table.

He has said before that the only thing keeping him from killing himself is spite, he lives for spite, and he will get clean for spite. I believe! All the nurses have to do is give him a print out sheet of his thread or Twitter every day of people saying he has no chance and he will do it!
