Do You Hate Google With Every Fibre of Your Being?

Same. I plan on moving over to Proton for email later this year which is a significant hurdle. Not only have I been using Gmail for decades at this point but I've still got keep my account for things like Google Calendar because that's what my friends and family use. Also Google Maps is still the best navigation option when driving. I used to really like Google back in the Nexus phone days. But now they are total scum.
How is the move going? I personally started it several years ago but didn’t finish. Thinking of starting it up again and just reduce my dependency on Google. I’ve been using Brave search alot more.

Google’s fuckery is the reason why I won’t buy a new Galaxy or Pixel. And i’m way past having an interest in fucking with Roms.

It's going slow. I've got Proton all set up and I use it for more anonymous stuff. I've got a "normal" email setup with them too, I just need to start the painful process of changing all of my accounts to that email which will honestly take years. I also need to move away from LastPass (yes I know, they are scum too) but that's also a pain because my family also uses them. If it was just me abandoning all of these shit companies it would be easy but when you've got loved ones involved it's always way more complicated. That said, Pixels are great as long as you're running GrapheneOS. Installing it is super easy now with the web interface. It's not like it was back in the day when you had to manually flash roms in the command line.

So far I've made the following switches:
Chrome > Brave
Google Search > literally anything else lol
Mac/Windows > Linux
Google Android > GrapheneOS
Google Photos > Syncthing to my local machine with Shotwell
Every streaming service > Plex + torrenting

Whoa whoa whoa, let’s slow your roll there, pardner. I fully support moving away from Screwgle and Microshaft, but why on God’s Green Earth would you want to turn your back on amazing Apple products?

Apple is a less evil cancer compared to the rest but they're still a disease.

User interface of Google images search went a lot suckier.

Used to be the image on the left, text or translation options at the bottom, and results on the right -- sorta like how Yandex image search works now. But now, Google image search results got (more) "smartphone"-ish, with the image cramped into the top, the options in the middle, and results on the bottom. And changing options now has animated effects! Also, when scrolling through related or matching images, the reference image vanishes, replaced with endless scrolling through related and matching pics. It sucks.

Do Google user interfaces ever improve, or only get worse?

Apple’s DEI b.s. is still in effect and that’s a genuine knock against them. But they continue to produce the best consumer electronics in the world. And they provide the best overall privacy for their customers when compared to any other large tech based company.

You are completely and totally delusional. Remember that time everyone's "deleted" photos on their iphones started re-appearing? Or the recent settlement apple had to pay over gimping older hardware to get people to upgrade? Or holding your phone wrong? Or this from this month https://www.reuters.com/legal/apple-pay-95-million-settle-siri-privacy-lawsuit-2025-01-02/. Just off the top of my head.

Anyway, Chrome now deletes history older than 90 days...
You actually believe that? Chrome phones home more often than a tween at her first overnight summer camp. Google products are absolute garbage.

Being on the bleeding and leading edge of technology isn’t always easy. When you make tech that’s much more advanced than the competition, sometimes minor mistakes occur. But compare Apple’s privacy bona fides to those of Screwgle and Microshaft and you’ll quickly notice that it’s no competition at all: Apple is superior.

Pandering to phonefags has ruined browsing.

It's been doing that since almost forever. Before 2014 it would just move them into an Archived History database, but from that year on 90 days is the most you're getting (archived page from 2015). Likewise for most chromium reskins, but some projects like ungoogled-chromium have a flag for it. (--keep-old-history, if you trust it). Firefox is slightly less scummy, instead of a 90 day expiration there's an obscure, hard limit you can circumvent by creating one of the mystery about: config flag they like so much (and hope won't be silently dropped because it's not supported by them in any way or form), places.history.expiration.max_pages, set an high value and hope it won't fuck with it (it will clean up URLs above 255 characters and some other conditions regardless of your preferences).

Google Gemini just randomly opened up on my phone. I got annoyed and told it to go fuck itself. It didn't like that.

This phone has no sim card and I just use it as a wifi device/temporary tablet. I just use it mainly for games. I have no idea why it just opened up. It's not downloaded anywhere. Does Google randomly try to advertise it to you in this way? The Play Store was open in the background. But I'm still not sure why Gemini popped up. I find any sort of voice control useless. It's faster to just type stuff.
