I don't think the war will stop in the next few days. These developments remind me of the couple of months before the war, when everyone was "negotiating" with Russia.
And just like then, I don't think the Russians will listen. Russia is probably about to launch a general offensive that Ukraine won't survive unless America sends tens of billions of dollars more of aid, which Trump can't do since that would go against his promises of putting "America first", and betraying his voters in the first days of holding office, especially when there are large fires on American soil, would be catastrophic for his support.
It might go down like in Vietnam: America gets sick of reanimating their patient and just hands it over to Russia and Europe to settle. Europe, of course, isn't able to do much, so their bet will be to try to stage a literal Maidan 2.0 in Russia-controlled Kiev several years later provided a globalist/neocon gets in power in America.
It won't be hard for Trump to claim "it's none of our business" and move on to things more interesting to Americans, more so with big tech being glad to help him memory hole Ukraine.
And, in one of his latest posts, Trump said that he wants the war to end because of lives being wasted: he never mentioned there being any American interests in Ukraine itself - he's just playing a saint, so if the war goes on he can say "Well, that's your choice" and move on. Luckily, there are a lot of topics he can momentarily switch the public's attention to, and the polls of the last couple of years show that Americans don't consider Ukraine all that important.
Basically, America will probably stop participating in and covering the war on the basis that it doesn't matter to it how it ends.
