Apparently the impetus for all of this was Digi disavowing lolicon on twitter.

I do not care to find the tweet, but Digi explains that when someone asked him "is this a joke?" Digibro responded by posting 3 pictures of "what I [Digibro] would describe as loli art, but not a single one registered to me [Digibro] as sexual in nature, they were just cute art."

Digi is getting extremely desperate for relevance lately. With him openly beefing with his ex-rival AnimeSnob and posting streams like this, I find it all to be a bit transparent and weak.

If I were to be as generous as possible to Digibro, believeing that this whole identity for the last 10 years is just a big haha funneh joke, I would just say this:

I don't even like Lolicons myself (i find it gross) but it's clear Digi is now backtracking his stances on Lolicon because of the culture of anime and how it shifted so much from 2016/17 that now he wants to distance himself from the past stances and views on anime he had. Digi was never special or important for doing that, and the fact that he was so popular makes me wonder how new and/or retarded his audience was -- but the way he humiliated Gigguk in that debate makes me wonder about the average weeb's mindset.

You qouted it yourself right there. It was his contrarian attitude. Video about anime were generally a hugbox type of content back then and if someone made a top 10 it was always followed by, "sorry these titles didn't make it I think they are all good works but they didn't make my cut.".
