I don't care enough to do another in-depth analysis of how many videos he's contributing to of late, but I do recall that the number had been going down over the years. Whether that's because they were attempting to wind down his work for them or because of the drought of Marvel capeshit last year, I dunno. If someone else wants to take a stab at checking the various Theory video credits for Bob's name, I think I stopped sometime in 2023, maybe early 2024.

At any rate, his actual job is as a self-employed critic. What else would his access to press screenings be for? I mean, it's kind of a running thing that kaiju movies have boring human characters that everyone forgets about as soon as the monster fights start, but just because it's like that in pretty much every movie doesn't mean it has to be that way. I like big monsters punching each other as much as the next guy, but I also don't really want that to be the entire movie because it would get kind of repetitive and I'd start to lose interest. Even if the human characters are kinda boring, I still appreciate their being there to break up the action and provide a relatable perspective for the audience, a ground-level view of these massive beasts duking it out. Personally, I would like if those characters were more interesting to make those parts more engaging, and thus the movie as a whole more satisfying.

Bob, a simpleton, just wants big dumb slapfights. He really does have the mind of a child. (Like I said, I like big dumb shit too, but I'd also like more, y'know?)

The level of immaturity and obliviousness is exactly the kind of thing that makes Bob a dumb person.

They make a token mention of fixing their real world at some point but it's glossed over so fast and treated as so unimportant that it's really embarrassing. Ready Player One is really, really embarrassing. Bob is exactly the kind of sucker who'd be into it.

Now, keep in mind I'm not insulting all "mass cameo crossover" movies. Stuff like Roger Rabbit and Wreck-It Ralph are great, and the crossover stuff in those movies were also all just quick cameos too. The difference is they still had some kind of weight, because those movies were specifically meant to have a meta-narrative around their respective subjects (cartoons and video games) while RPO is just very vaguely about pop culture in general, and with no connecting theme, the characters appearances don't really represent anything or add any value to the plot or worldbuilding at all. They all have a reason to be there and the traits you love about them are all on full display. Whereas RPO just says "here's the justice league and the twins from the shining and optmus prime and star wars and stuff" but they don't really get to do anything.

This is also why the original Space Jam is a corny but fun and quaint little romp, while Space Jam 2 is an abortion that didn't have the good fortune to die. One is an Isekai story about a talented athlete who has to use his extraordinary skill to save a world of cartoon characters from a villainous alien invasion. Now a lot of the I hate anything Disney Star Wars crowd either hated it or downplayed that it was good calling it boring which to me made them sound like babies who needed dangling keys to stay entertained much like people who call old movies too talky.

But Acolyte was different it had middle of the road reviews and terrible word of mouth this wasn't "Dude Bros" hating on it this was everyone saying this show was just bad.
