I was listening to some Nature show this weekend and found myself reminded of a little gem posted to /x/ a few years ago: Proboscis Luke.
When I was a kid I had a surreal and terrifying experience watching a VHS of the special edition of Star Wars: A New Hope with my mom. I believe this was the late 90's (1998?) but I can't give an exact date so I apologize, however I was approximately 11 or 12. Basically we were watching the part of the film where they're in the Death Star. At one point when confronted by stormtroopers, Luke's nose suddenly extended grotesquely into a strange flesh-colored elephant's trunk. It then flailed around making elephant trumpet sounds scaring the stormtroopers off. I vividly remember this, and I was absolutely terrified. My mom was really jarred and confused and trying to calm me down. Leia then says "that's enough Proboscis Luke" and his nose returned to normal. The film also continued on as normal. Every subsequent viewing of our VHS was completely normal, as with every previous viewing. We had already watched the film multiple times prior to the incident so that precludes it being some strange edited copy which would be weird in and of itself.
My mom still remembers the event and sometimes we talk about it. It honestly feels somewhat demonic. Like something was trying to fuck with us through the VHS. The recent talk of the "Bigger Luke Hypothesis" kept reminding me of the incident so I thought I'd finally post it somewhere. Anyone else have any strange experiences watching films like this?
Now, the typical reaction to something like this is to find it utterly comical, but there were a few who found the concept oddly unnerving, which led to this brief interaction, which I consider a worthy appendage (or proboscis) to the tale:
Midway though the thread, someone claiming to be the OP said the whole story was bullshit, and it almost certainly was. But I don't know, there's something about the idea that struck at a nerve for at least a few people. It got almost no subsequent discussion and I haven't really seen it reposted anywhere, but it had enough interest for me to remember it four years later.
2025 Kiwifarms is much more than just an internet freak show gossip site; I don't care what dear feeder says, and I think that if he truly drank his own Koolaid, that his website, which he constantly has to fight tooth and nail for against political entities, wouldn't have ever been hosted under "1776hosting," contain American Revolutionary War and bible verses at the bottom of the page, or be associated with his weekly podcast where he explicitly talks about global politics and how much he hates brown people and wants an aryan ethnostate.
For what it’s worth, I still feel like you can use KF without being explicitly right wing. As long as you aren’t a tranny or overly progressive you aren’t going to get dogpiled. I don’t agree with Josh’s political stances on a lot of things, (except on trannies) but I still use his site because i like using it.
major power players in various sizeable internet communities are far less afraid not only to utter the name of the damnable farms, but also use it as a resource and admit how often it's right.
Anybody who is making YouTube drama/lolcow documentaries has been on here at least once. That’s an undeniable fact. You cannot research internet drama without KF acting as a de facto archive.

/m/ stagnated a lot after the 15-minute cooldown, /n/ is occupied by bike spam and dead threads, /toy/ is pure schizophrenia (but funny sometimes), /mu/ is only notable for Jefre Cantu-Ledesma posts, and /sci/ is /pol/-lite but with funny posts about pop science.

Meanwhile the fucking dall-e 3, console tans, drawthreads, the threads about the sale of video games in Japan nobody fucking heard about, the jigsaw puzzles thread are fine apparently, even though they are peak circlejerks and not even about video games in the first place. I've hated /v/ for a long time, which is why I mostly lurk and really only post in threads about video games that aren't talked about there frequently.

Same here, I'm not here because of the political biases (which I don't agree with, at all, *especially* Nulls) I mostly ended up here because of the internet gossip and because having a dissenting opinion at all was still possible, which disappared as an option from pretty much all other online platforms around the time I ended up here. That said, it also used to be better here. I feel there was recently an influx of normies from politsperging places like /pol/, which made kiwifarms qualitatively worse. A lot of threads also have turned into information-free circlejerks that serve absolutely no purpose, but that is to be expected from a forum of a certain age to be honest. There might be a time where kiwifarms also falls to groupthink and toeing the line akin to e.g. Somethingawful, and I guess that will be the time where I will move on from being an active part of online communities for good. And don't say that won't ever happen - it absolutely can. Takes less than one thinks.
Kiwifarms used to cling on to life in an internet enviroment that was far more thought policed and hostile to dissenting opinions than it is now, that is a fact. For me it still remains to be seen if the other "side" of the pendulum will behave any better when it comes to "thought policing" and "purity testing". Honestly, I'm not all that optimistic, because both ends of the political spectrum are filled with the same kind of terminally online, perpetually offended weirdos.

KF has plenty of dogpiling and there's explicitly left wing people who get away with shitting up threads because they have early join dates. The idea that KF is just a fun website where you laugh at weird people is a major cope. Often threads are full of a-logs with IQs lower than the people they're laughing at. CobraJFS's thread is a constant loop of the same people posting the same posts every day. It's no different from many 4chan generals. If you go to Boogie2988's thread it starts with his dox and most posts are wishing him dead or asking if he's dead yet. The holier-than-thou attitude is dishonest or a cope from people who can't accept they are some what evil and enjoy being cruel or watching others be cruel to retarded people.
4chan never had a unique userbase, it always had cross over with social media sites, reddit and kiwifarms. You can see the same people if you browse the same kind of content online. You will see leather craftsman posting the same images on /out/, Reddit and their socials. They would post them here if they weren't worried about doxing. The internet isn't as big as we think it is and it's easy to follow people with even 1 image shared between sites.

Sharty has now been linked to a school shooting. A black sharty poster shot two girls and failed to kill himself afterwards. After Brevik 4chan tightened up it's moderation and this may impact the site as much. Sharty being birthed from /qa/ and existing because of 4chan moderation it will be interesting to see how Gook Moot and his tranny jannies respond.
