I don't think it will be widely used, but Trump realizes that if he advertises that illegals will be deported to live in a giant cage with some of the worst scum on the planet that they might fuck off and go back home of their own volition instead.

Bukele's El Salvador is in a much better place but the entire country is basically in a military dictatorship under martial law. It needs a permanent economy.

The country needed it. Prior to Bukele taking office they were the murder capital of the world. In 2015 their homicide rate was slightly more than 100 per 100k people. Now it's down below 2 per 100k. Prior to this it was impossible for them to have a functioning economy when if you ever were successful a gang like MS-13 would shake you down. Bukele has an incredibly high approval rating because of how bad things were in their country and now that people don't live in constant fear of being murdered, extorted, or having their sons and daughters kidnapped and forced to join gangs they can have some semblance of a normal life.
