And how much resource we have until we run out? Or cause irreversible damage?
We have enough to run on for decades without a sweat. By the time things could become a problem and wells run low, we would have developed a new, more efficient source of power to take over. Also, I wouldn't worry about irreversible damage, nature has a habit of healing when you leave it alone for a while.

I mean we have heavy sanctions on Iran yet their economy is still better than cubas economy. Sanctions alone don't destroy an economy economic mismanagement often does.

Beyond what was already said about Iran being a petrostate and how petroleum will always keep a country afloat despite severe mismanagement, those heavy sanctions also forced the Iranian government to exist in some state of autarky ever since the 1979 revolution. In addition to its oil, Iran also has a robust military industrial complex of its own. Imam Khomeini's education reforms in the 80s meant that STEM fields were heavily emphasised, and the result is that Iran is on a similar military power level to Turkey. It also helps that they have Russia (at one point) and China (nowadays) to bypass sanctions on some measure.

To paraphrase my favourite MEMRI quote from Yasser Qashlaq: "Iran was under siege for 30 years, yet they managed to send a monkey into space. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, was not under siege for 30 years yet they've only managed to put two monkeys into office: one named Abdullah, another named Saud al-Faisal."

Crossposting a very good and relevant post from the Canada is a Failed State thread:
The average Canadian's understanding of politics, especially geopolitics, is that it's something like sitting at a big table with your first grade class while a teacher is present. They think being "nice" has value. They think being "morally right" has value. They genuinely think that America is a big meanie head with a stupid cheeto president and the whole world will protect Canada because they're the kid getting bullied, and then it'll turn out like some stupid episode of Degrassi or whatever where Trump gets humiliated and is forced to apologize at the end and learns a lesson about why you should always respect other people. They are like that one stupid fucking kid in grade school who would be very annoying and moralize to everyone about everything, then run to the teacher whenever other kids would tell him to fuck off. That's Canadians, politically.

They are completely delusional, and it's how we got into this mess. At some point, both the government and the people started to believe their own bullshit. This country is a political echo chamber, and Trump just kicked the door in. Unfortunately for the members, there are no reddit mods who can ban him.

aren't our natural oil deposits refilling themselves? I heard something about it a few months ago

The United States can absorb anything Canada tries to do economically way easier than what Canada can do to absorb the pain from the United States tariffs.
Well, we don't want Canada to become a client state of China, with military and trade alliances etc. right on our border.
If that's already happening and the tariffs are meant to stop it, somehow, then well and good, if it stops that.
But if Canada turning to China for protection and replacement trade wasn't considered, then the tariffs are obviously a bad idea.
If the tariffs just result in Canada selling raw materials to China at cut-rate prices, they're not a good idea.

Since I got quoted, I'd like to add that Trudeau's speech today is a perfect example of this behavior. He really thinks that he can just do a touching TV/Hollywood speech about how we've always been friends and somehow that'll make the big evil orange Hitler man look so bad to all his people that he'll have to admit he was wrong. That is how people here view politics, implicitly. They think of it like it's a game of emotions and morals and doing the right thing, not a game of maneuvering and posturing and subtly threatening to get what you want while you stay on your toes.

In short, they're idiots.

Canada is basically a Chinese vassal state as it is. If the Chinks put military boots/hardware there it will be casus belli for day of the rake.

If China tries something , Trump will retaliate accordingly. Corn Pop is out of office, days of fucking around are over. We're not going to lose even more border security, especially not to a bunch of retarded canucks.

Also this. All we need now is an excuse, if that tweet about American enemies getting blown to smithereens wasn't a big enough giveaway.

Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary shouldn't be limited to browbeating Latin America into compliance with US goals; it's high time we spoke softly and beat Canada into submission with our colossal stick! We need a Trump Coda!

run to a country like a China for aid in some way. The Chinese may also see some kind of opportunity in all of this.
For some things? Sure.
But China isn't a catch-all they cant just wave a wand and import/export everything Canada-China needs that we gave/sold for similar cost. If it was so cheap and easy to go to china for these import/exports they already would have done so.
It seems more like the world will just shrug and start trading with each other rather than the United States.
Lmao, I cannot believe that there are actually people in this thread that thinks international trade is as simple as "shrugging", signing a few papers, then trading with someone else. That smaller economies can easily maneuver their export/imports as or more efficiently then larger economies.

Well, as long as you think the new administration has considered the possibility. Do you have any quotes from this administration about this possibility?
It is odd to have what sounded like an isolationist candidate and isolationist supporters become in favor of militarily attacking Canada, Panama, and Greenland immediately.

They can't become a client state of China because they'll get kicked out of NATO and maybe even the Commonwealth

Nobody is going to get attacked, these are weak countries that will crack. Funny how the thought of merely preserving your national interests is now seen as something imperialist, you people forgot what it's like to have a real leader ruling over the country. Sometimes, a few eggs need to be broken to get what you want, sometimes a few tariffs to tard wrangle your neighbour. Nobody is starting a war, and if Canada or anybody else does something astronomically stupid like running to Russia or China for help, then they don't deserve our mercy.

My man you have no idea how many fucking layers of retardation our government is on. If shit gets bad enough they will absolutely try it, NATO/Commonwealth be damned. They've been flirting with China for years already. Our elite do not give a single fuck about the future of this country at all, they are a parasite class by definition, and they make the parasites in the USA look tame by comparison.

Also the US accounts for over TWO-THIRDS of all Canadian trade. They had decades to move on, and they didn't.

Have you seen the china uncensored and china exposed videos, china doesn’t have unlimited funds and is doing badly economically. people can tear apart walls and support structures with their bear hands, and I don’t mean drywall, this is even worse than that.
the only thing of value china may want from Canada is oil and rare earth minerals. But that doesn’t account for everything they may need to export to make up for the deficit.

Don't worry, US isn't necessarily attracted to the idea of Canadian sovereignty either. The Fallout annexation meme is getting old, but you get the point, we will not have any qualms about attacking a nation that betrayed us for a foreign power. ESPECIALLY if there is oil at stake.
